"Definately not the best movie ever (I actually referred to ESB as the best movie ever along with Godfather, Part II), when it was released I'm sure it was good, but it is no Independence Day"

exact quote. i  did you?

yeah... don't get me wrong, I loved star wars as a kid, but as an adult, the cheesiness and bad acting in the movies just totally repells me :(

if you look at episode 4 as a standalone, it's an awesome action/adventure flick though. it could have ended as a standalone (albeit vader living was a cliff hanger). action adventure flick made for kids or the kid in the adult a la flash gordon.

And what's the deal with the rebel uniforms? The empire comes at them with stormtroopers in full body armor, and the rebels are wearing blue shirts and non-functional black vests. wtf?!

Yeah, and Leah has to put the deathstar plans on that droid. She could have just emailed them CC: to like everybody... DUH!

I could understand someone not appreciating Star Wars after seeing it the first time now, but how someone could think Independence Day was better, or that Independence day was in any way even a mediocre movie is beyond me. That movie flat out sucked.

meh... i didn't grow up with "stars wars is the best thing since..." thought. Never saw any of them. When episode V was re-released in theaters, I fell asleep for most of the movie (although, I was tired). I guess I've seen part of one. Not everyone is the same.

I never saw Star Wars as a kid. I've seen up though Episode 4 in numerical order (The first one I saw was Phantom Menace).

They don't do that much for me, honestly.

What rock was your friend living under that he avoided all 6 movies over the past 25 years? ;)

IMO 4, 5, and 6 were much better than 1, 2, and 3. Movies where acting is dominat will pwn cgi movies!

To be honest, we saw them all (or as much as we could take) and i was not impressed at all. It was not my bag and i cannot even appricate it for the effects that were done back when it was made

I saw Spaceballs way before I ever saw any Star Wars. I didn't even know Spaceballs was a spoof of Star Wars.

I didn't see Star Wars anything for the first time until college, when they re-released the original episodes in theatres back in 97-98 or so. I felt it was a waste of money. I love Spaceballs though.

How can you all be posting on a geek forum and not like Star Wars! I mean honestly, the origional 3 are all time classics, and the current 3 are all solid movies, especialy the last 2 which are just superb.

I can understand maybe someone not liking these movies personally, but if there is any sci-fi movie you like then you pretty much owe some debt of graditude to Star Wars for showing that such films can be HUGELY sucessfull.

It's all about the timing. Seeing it in '77 (or thereabouts) was mind-blowing. Seeing it today? Not so much...

The original trilogy (ep 4,5,6) are three of the best sci-fi movies ever, no question. I feel really bad for people who had ep 1-3 as their first star wars movies....

QFT

I remember reading previews/reviews of it back then, it soo different from anything else back then that the authors had real trouble just trying to describe it. Not to mention the gfx were a giant leap ahead of anything else. Today, they're just routine.
