Now what?

Wife's grandfather passed away and his wife(got married a few years ago at 70+) wants us to have one of his cars, so it seems like in the near future I will be the owner of a 99 Grand Marquis with right around 100k miles on it.

It is in West Texas. I am in Kentucky. No one local seems to want to deal with it, don't think it will work as a vehicle for us. So far only solution is for mil to drive it to her place in Dallas and then?

I personally love the Panther chassis Fords, but if it's not your thing you'll hate it.

Sounds like all you can do is sell it. Unfortunately, a 99 GM is not worth a whole lot.

If it were a Toyota or Honda you would be all over it. Just change the badge. Dental floss works in removing the old one. A little 3M emblem tape will secure the new one.

nah, just paint it all black or white, get one of those police front bumpers, an adjustable spotlight and drive around making people nervous

They are good cars but tanks.
Not bad MPG for what it is, but not Civic like either.
If gas prices weren't so high I would drive one as a commuter.

My uncle has a 99 GM as well with about 120k. He gets about 25mpg highway, not bad at all. Its actually worth about 5-6k in good condition

I've got a friend with a Crown Vic and it gets decent highway mileage considering its size and age. In stop and go traffic though? Yikes...

Yea, we really weren't expecting anything from the estate, so while we were in town it was a bit of a surprise, and tbh I've always heard nice things about the panthers and for a small v8 they don't get that bad of mpg.

We're currently in a subcompact 06 scion xa and a 06 ford ranger, and with an infant car seat the front passenger seat of the scion is almost unusable so we were looking for something bigger anyway. But maybe it was the fact that we had a rental 11 Mazda 3 and I was playing pandora through my windows phone to the bluetooth in the car, but when we took the GM up to get some pizza I was underwhelmed.

I learned to drive in an 82 Grand Marquis. My grandparents gave it to my uncle when they bought a new Buick in like 92 or 93, and when I was 14 he let me drive it around.

Can't really compare 82 to 99 too much, but it was a HUGE boat, it was very comfortable for rural areas with very little traffic. Eventually it had issues with stalling and it was sold, but I always though of it as a pretty cool car actually... nice big V8, tons of room for 6 adults, etc...

If it's a Texas vehicle it should have very little if any rust at all. With that many miles, in good condition, you could easily get at least 3k out of it, if not more.

If you don't want it and are going through Dallas drop it off at my house. I don't have a lot of cash right now, but I'd give you something for it.

Just clicked to see other posts by user and saw you have a 2010 GT, I'd really prefer an '11 but a 10' should do.

Big Turbo?
Bright Teeth?
Banging Tropics?
Beautiful Thong?

I think he meant I can add Blue Tooth to the GM, since I was liking it in the 3.

Still debating, was looking at selling the truck or scion and picking up an 09+ fusion or mazda 6 or something else in that class. I have been lusting at mustangs and CTS-V's but in the end I think I'm going to go with fuel economy and a low sticker price and let the bank account grow. Just need to pick up a newer bike to have fun on when I get the chance(not in charge of the carseat).

I was actually thinking about keeping the truck or getting an old International scout so we have something for hauling stuff around, but had given up on the idea as our small garage and driveway already have too many projects. I keep trying to sell myself on keeping the GM, and getting rid of the car or holding on to the truck but I just don't think my heart is in it. On the flip side my wife has been increasing her sentimental attachment to the car, her grandfather was dear to her, and has already nixed the idea of letting it go cheap to our 16 year old neice who wouldn't take care of it.

I don't think this thread had a point.

How much cash do you have? i Have a 98 Grand Marquis I have been thinking of selling. :)

Assuming of course Turin doesn't want to sell his.
