So, I had this left over ham hock

Guess what I did? :)

Damn, I wish I had a digital cam.

Anyway, I put the water in the pan, threw in some chopped onions, chopped celery, garlic, salt, pepper, and the split peas, etc. I boiled the stuff, then threw in the ham hock. Now it's simmerin, slow and aromatic.

This is gonna be so good! :)

Yeps, but damn it's hard to wait! I did go stir the pot, and fork out a little taste of ham. ;)

Sounds delicious. It's a testament to someone's culinary abilities when they can take a handful of ingredients and make something great out of it w/no recipie to follow.

Next time throw in a bay leaf or two. Really adds to the flavor of split pea soup......
