I left for Italy and turned off my computer so that it wouldn't be running. Upon returning this evening my computer will not post, not only will it not post but when I press the power button it remains on for about 1/2 a second. I have an Asus K8v SE Deluxe w/ athlon 3200, I'm not overclocking and I have a Neo Power 480 PSU. Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

I thought Dead PSU as well... my other computer here is still running strong thats why I was a little confused if there was a power surge why would only this one die. I also HATE changeing out PSUs, blech.

also even when I have it off (still plugged in) the green status light inside is on. Can a PSU be bad and still not provide enough power?

What your describing sounds like a short somewhere, I'd guess your motherboard bought it or has an issue. (could also be the PSU but I kinda doubt it)

I was thinking the same thing... But how could that happen from just sitting there while I'm in another country for 10 days? I've got a zalman 7700 ALCU on the CPU but the weight of that is no where near the 7700CU so I doubt that would have cracked the board. I bet I go home and find a giant ass bug in my wiring.

did you make sure the switch on the back of the psu is on the right one? 115v or 220v?

Who was around your computer while you were gone? Maybe they did something naughty to it and/or messed with the connections.

Nobody was there... the house was empty except for my cats and they were blocked off from entering that area of my house. I bet I get back to my house and find a giant ass bug... I was too damn tired to really poke around last night (jet lag. got home at 8:00PM felt like 2:00AM). I'll keep this updated, cause this is really making me wonder considering nothing could have happened.

I had a Power Supply once that would shut down if there was a power surge, spike or whatever. Unplugging it from the wall for about 5 minutes would reset it.

Worth a try.

I had a whole house surge supressor put on about 10 or 12 years ago. We had a massive brown out over Christmas time and lots of folks lost appliances etc.

I didn't have any trouble, but had it put on anyway. I really don't recall the price, but I do not remember it being terribly expensive.

It attaches to your breaker panel. An electrician friend of mine installed it. It really was simple to install and if you feel comfortable working in the breaker panel it could be done yourself.

Mine has two indicator lights on it and if one of them goes out, you're supposed to replace it. I took the cover off and it has a real strong burnt electrical smell to it. That's the whatevers in it taking care of the surges.
