Please be advised that we have noticed unauthorized scans/probes originating from your IP address, contrary to the terms & conditions outlined in the Rogers End User Agreement. Your computer looks to be infected with the Sasser Virus (Please see below for more information) In an effort to preserve the quality of service to all customers, and to maintain a good standing presence with fellow Internet entities, we are contacting you to ensure that this matter is resolved immediately. A portion of the complaint(s) are included below this message.

SASSER VIRUS OVERVIEW:
This virus is spreading rapidly across the Internet. Unlike viruses sent via Email attachments, this ?worm? virus can infect computers by taking advantage of security vulnerability in Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It can be spread from computer to computer with no user intervention.

SASSER - SYMPTOMS OF INFECTION:
In most situations, the Sasser virus will cause your Windows 2000 or Windows XP to frequently restart. While your computer is rebooting, you may also see pop-up systems messages regarding ?NT Authority\System? or ?LSA Shell? just prior to your computer restarting. Your computer will attempt to infect other computers without your knowledge.

We highly recommend running McAfee?s FREESCAN ? a free, online virus scan to see if your computer has been infected:

SASSER ? HOW TO REMOVE IT IF YOUR COMPUTER HAS BEEN INFECTED

1. Download and run McAfee?s Free Virus Removal Tool - Stinger
If your computer has been infected, McAfee has released a stand-alone virus removal tool which can remove this virus. Their free 'Stinger' virus removal tool can be downloaded from their Website:

2. Run Windows Update:
Infected systems should install the Microsoft update to be protected from the SASSER virus:

I read this and I am, like WTF? So I check my pc to see if there is any unusual network activity and there is none. I scan everything for viruses and come up clean. I scan for spyware and come up clean.

My lan sits behind a Freesco firewall/router (ver.32) and nothing gets in or out without leaving a trace. I even went through my firewall's logs and there was nothing out of the ordinary.

So I called them up and asked to speak to a network tech. I told him about the email and told him about my firewall and my scanning and network monitoring and how there is nothing weird going on. He told me I did everything I could to ensure there is no problems and to ignore the email.

I just wish they would be more specific about what types of scans and why they blame me.

It was legit.

I removed certain info from the letter that only the ISP would know.
