Well, as the title says I got the Wii the other day. A buddy of mine had a raincheck for one and he let me buy it. Initially I thought it was great, but after playing a while the novelty of the controller really started to wear off. Don't get me wrong, the wii was fun to play, but I thought the control scheme just didn't work as well as it was supposed to.
First, maybe it was just my system, but there was a distinct lag between when I would move the remote/nunchuk and when the system would responde. Not like a major delay or anything, but enough to be perceptible.
Second, the wiimote seemed to work very well for games that did not require the system to detect repeated rapid movement, i.e., wii tennis, wii golf etc. However, the controls seemed decidedly sluggish for other games that require such rapid movement, i.e. wii boxing, Rampage, etc.
Sadly, because of these issues, I decided to ebay my Wii in an effort to finance a new xbox 360 purchase. Don't fret, someone bought it in 6 hours for my very reasonable price of cost +shipping, so the system will have a good home. I was actually genuinely disappointed and saddened by my experience with the wii. I had such high hopes for the system and the control scheme, but it just fell "flat" for me.
Ah well, this is not an attempt to start a flame/sony vs MS vs Nintendo war. I just wanted to share my personal experiences with the Wii. Obviously america loves it with the way it is selling, and for good reason, as the innovation behind the controller is nothing less than extraordinary. I just couldn't get past the sluggishness of the controls.
EDIT: I guess I should mention that I originally bought this system with my wife in mind. I thought she would like it and we could play together (nothing says psychotherapy like having a virtual boxing match with your wife). Unfortunately she showed little interest...
