I was leaving my Tuesday night bowling place carrying 4 other friends. They serve beer there, but hey I'm underage, and I'm a tad smarter to drink and drive, so I'm obviously ok.
I spot a cop in the parking lot and he seems to be leaving just like me. I see the red light at the parking lot exit, so I make a FULL STOP and then turn right. Cop doesn't fully stop and rolls through and is behind me. I'm careful of my speed but I'm not sure of Berkeley's retarded streets and their speed limits. University Ave is a 2 lane road that carries insane amounts of traffic but only has a 25mph speed limit (WTF), so I take it slow and I drive 25 on this road. I end up speeding up to about 34 - 35, and I'm like whoah whoah watch it. Other cars are going about this speed (but it's 1AM so there's not many to match with). I slow down to 32 or so as I see the speed limit is marked 30. Cop is still behind me.
I merge left one lane so maybe he'll pass because obviously anyone driving so close to the speed limit is just slow as fvck especially at 1AM. Cop merges with me. Ughh ok, I'm keeping 2 hands on the wheel. He's following close behind, not tailgating, but def. not 2 - 3 seconds behind me.
I'm maintainign speed, but sometimes I slip close to 35, but I make sure I drop back to 31/32, and he's still tailing me. After a whole 5 min or so his lights go on. I'm totally shocked. My friends are like WTF.
I pull over immediately, and I roll down the window.
Officer: Is this your car?
Me: Yes sir
Officer: Had anything to drink tonight?
Me: (without even thinking) Nope.
Officer: So it turns out your license plate needs a light around it and it's not there.
Me: *sigh of relief*
So I'm not as anxious anymore, but this I don't talk to cops very often and nor have I ever been pulled over so I ask things like oh, is the light broken? Is it supposed to be above the plate, blah blah. He runs a check on my license and tells me to go get it fixed.
Whew.
I signal and drive off at a slow 30mph and I hit a light. In my rearview mirror I see his lights flashing again and he pulled someone over immediately after he was done with me.
Iono, I was feeling nervous the whole 15 min drive back home.
Good encounter with cop at least. I will take my car home this weekend and will get it fixed.
