I'm cruising along a road I drive 4 times a day, every day at 40mph (it's a 25). All of a sudden a cop pulls out a corner and i suddenly have this feeling that i'm screwed. I break it down to about 35 as the cop passes me and turns on his lights. I know i'm busted so I immediatly pull over, roll down my window, turn off the car and put my hands on 10 and 2 as he pulls up behind me and walks up to the door. Asks me for license/registration, etc.

He asks me how i'm doing and tells me it's a residential area. I say I know sir, i'm just late for my prom date activity (i really was) and was trying to make up time. He then tells me a story of on this exact road of a kid who walked out to get the mail and got hit by a driver going 50, he asked me how I would feel if that happened to me. I said I would feel horrible and there are absolutely no excuses for speeding, none. It's better to be late than take a life. He see's that I am sincere and in a matter of words told me i'm off the hook and to be more careful. I said thank you officer and went on my merry way.

Funny thing is, that last night I somehow got to reading on the internet exactly the way you should handle speeding tickets and deal with the officers, and I pretty much followed that exactly and he let me off with a warning. He didn't even do a background check or anything (which i wouldn't mind if he did cause i'm clean).

Anyway I feel really good right now :) allthough I don't know if I can say the same with the date...i wish i would have gone with somebody else.

whoops, first time poster here.....
hehe.

anyways, what I was gonna say was that maybe the officer was going to let you off the hook anyways...most first time pull-overs are like that......

btw, where did you read about how to handle those types of situations?? hehe

You wasted your FIRST post on this?! By saying nothing?! Oh well :)

Congrats on getting away with the ticket. I'll try to use that tactic next time when I'm in a jam ;)

Right here.

This was the first time i've ever been pulled over, but how would the cop know that without running a background check? Besides I was driving my dads car not mine.

Haha pyonir, i thought you were talking about running from the cops.

<< what is 10 and 2? i'm not familiar with that term. >>

It means putting your hands on the steering wheel at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock.
