I haven't opened the package yet, so I am curious if its laden with warnings about hardware issues or not. The system has a 7600GS video card (256mb ram) so I believe Aero will be fine. The system also has 2gb of memory too.

I currently run XP/Pro on this system as I do on my desktops. Question related to Vista compared to XP. On the XP machines with 2gb ram I have the swap file turned off. Can I do the same with Vista?

(mod note : oh, if this should be part of another thread feel free to move it)

I use my laptop mainly for games, but sometimes while using the desktop I use the lappy for Skype; which begs the question - does Skype work well under Vista too?)

You will only reduce performance by disabling the swap file.

It sounds like your Toshiba was possibly purchased very recently with a "free" update to Vista. In that case, you can likely disregard the following:

As far as I can tell, many older Toshiba laptops won't run Vista right now. My two-year-old Toshiba Satellite won't. An attempt to install Vista results in a BSOD, saying that the BIOS isn't fully ACPI compliant. My particular Toshiba has no BIOS update that gives Vista compatibility.

Again, I'm not sure how widespread this is, but I know that I'm not alone in being unable to install Vista on my Toshiba laptop.

If you have an older Toshiba, you may want to check out Toshiba's support website to see if there's any indication whether your particular model is Vista-compatible. And, no, Microsoft's Vista Upgrade Advisor won't tell you if the BIOS is Vista-compatible. My Satellite passes the Advisor's check just fine.

Yeah its new. I got it the day after Vista came out. BB was clearing them out (1999 down to 1299 plus 200gc). Great machine.

Just wanted to see if anyone took the plunge.
