So I got my money back for my 6800GT.

I ordered a 6800GT for $365 on ebay about a month ago. I had a REALLY hard time spending that much money on a video card. When I got it, I slapped it in the system, ran DOOM3, Far Cry, Colin Mcrae, and was astounded by the beauty and speed of everything.

A week later I get video errors in bios where my system wouldn't even boot. Apparently it was due to my 6800GT, which was messed up. I returned the card to the seller, but after two weeks of not getting a replacement card because the seller couldn't get a replacement on his end, he refunded me my money.

So here I am. I got my $365 back. Should I get another 6800GT, or is this my second chance to make a wise decision and NOT spend it?

I have a 2001FP, so basically I would like to run all my games at native 1600x1200, AA, AF, and details on high if possible. Do you think I'll be happy with spending half of that $365 and getting a 6800NU/6600? I sure enjoyed the 6800GT.....

I would have to ask what PSU you have in your system. And is your system loaded to the max with peripherals? Fans, Hard drives galore? etc. Or is your system average in this respect?

A good quality 350w PSU is pretty much the minimum in an average desktop config with a 6800 in it and your GT should have a dedicated lead from the PSU without anything else on it if possible.

If you have a good PSU, then I would say get yourself another GT. Its an Animal card as you have seen.

It probably is the PSU. nVidia GPUs eat up power like beasts, so you should have at least a 400w quality PSU (Antec, Enermax yadda yadda), but to be safe I'd get like a 430 or 450.

But 6800GTs are very nice cards. I'd get another one.

I have this 500W for my PS. 34A on the 12V rail. My system is currently:

A64 3000+
1 gig DDR500 RAM
120GB WD HDD
80GB WD SE HDD
Audigy 2
Leadtek TV tuner card
CD burner
DVD burner

It should be ok, no?

Check Hot Deals, there's a 6800GT on sale somwhere for $350. Or find a BFG for $400MSRP and not worry about it since you have lifetime warranty

But the investment is so much.... I could easily save $100 by just going with the 6800NU. I would never have to worry about it with the lifetime warranty... until upgrade time... This is the most expensive that I've EVER seen video cards.

128MB isn't enough to run 16x12 AA smoothly, so either forget about the AA and get a 6800, or just pony up for the GT.

bingo. 6800nu just cant handle hi res with AA/AF.

Hey wiht outpost becareful, some states have taxes so when you put on taxes to 350 it might make it alot more expensive than other sites. In addition, outputs shipping is kinad of expensive. So consider all that before buying from them.
