So i got my gas bill and ...

$422 for 49 day billing cycle. They didn't bill me for december because the account was being transferred into my name. But yes I am responsible for the amount. Now, how the heck do I lower that b!tch?!?!!?!?

It's on 65 when we leave the house and 68 when we go to bed.

Wow could you have a gas leak?? Might be worth checking.

How many gas appliances do you own? We use natural gas, but our bill is < $100 a month.
 
My suggestion is to turn off your heater, wear warm clothing and put small electric heaters in strategic locations. For instance one in the TV room, one near computer...

Will save you a bundle.

Yep, it was pushed to switch to Natural Gas as it would be better for the Country and then zing, they quadruple the cost that it's cheaper to run Electric Heat, how cute.

Everyone should switch to burning wood and choke up the air, and watch how fast the Oil & Gas Companies change their tunes and prices.

Check your insulation in the attic, seal off those old windows with removable caulk or plastic (works wonders. I have an old hosue with older, single pane windows and once I put that plastic on its amazing to literally see it ballon up with the wind/air its catching).

Oh and welcome to a real utility bill. 🙁

All good ideas. Also, you could look into getting a programmable thermostat that lowers the temp when you're not home. Also check for drafts around outlets and windows and doors. There might be a big draft you don't know about.

 
seal the windows, lower the temp when youre gone. I have a woodstove at home so our bill is sometimes under a buck (furnace is the only consumer of gas).

install a programmable thermostat. lower your house to 58 at 11 pm, bring it to 65 at 6:30, back to 58 at 8:30, and back to 68 at 4:30.
