So I got my Annual Review today ...

And it went pretty well. My scores were pretty much Average w/the exception of being scored higher on one area. I had a lot of great comments coming to me from my manager as well. He told me how one thing I did, that wasn't very apparent to me, really impressed all the managers. We have our own language that is embedded in our software package, and typically, engineers don't code in it at all. However my project was all in this scripting language. So they were all impressed with me being able to adapt and make it perform so well in this somewhat limited scripting language.

Not to mention, he pretty much told me that I am going to be the engineering "face" of the side package that I'm working on for our company, which is pretty cool, but also will be adding some pressure on me .

Basically he was saying that I want to make sure everyhing in the side package is outstanding quality, because if I'm at a trade show and people are asking me about when something is going to be fixed, instead of what are some new features coming out, that I would know the quality is not up to par and it'd be embarassing.

Pretty good review though . I wont know about the exact raise until about 2 mondays from now. He said it is going to be more than the typical cost of living raise (not sure what % that even is) and that it will keep me happy but probably won't get me too excited. So we'll see.

Cost of Living raise is usually around 3%.

If it's a big company, you'll get 4%(maybe 5 or 6) instead of 3%...

yea i am really expecting to get around 5% or so, and honestly, if its 5% I am not going to be that happy. i mean i have seen plenty of jobs in this area and other areas, that w/2 yrs experience you can be making over 60K/yr easily. granted I only have 1 year exp for now, I am considering if I were to get the same % raise next year as well.

as of now, I'm not even making over 50K/yr before bonuses. i will still be happy though because i enjoy the job and its a great environment

Unless you do something totally radical and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, don't expect a raise more than 5%. The only time I have gotten raises much greater than a cost of living raise is when I've got promoted to a new position....or changed jobs.

Yah thats why when I get 2+ years experience I am thinking of moving down to Florida and getting a higher paying job as well.
