You need an LGA1151 motherboard. That means your chipset options, from lowest end to highest, are H110, B150, H170 and Z170. You can ignore Z170 unless you want to overclock or find a good deal. H170 is basically the same as Z170 without OC support. B150 is a solid middle ground. H110 are used mainly in basic machines, though you can game on it and install a GPU and kick butt with it no problem. I recommend a B150 or H170 board for your chip to get the largest feature set. if you plan on swapping out the CPU sometime and considering a K chip with overclocking capabilities, buy the Z170 board now.

This is going to be basically kids machine for web base game and Diablo 3.
I will not O.C. at all.
MB and CPU will be upgraded from X9650 and MB is EP45. The reason I am going with newer platform because electricity consumption. Performance wise current CPU is just fine.
Future setup going to have 7970 GPU, Intel 320 128 SSDSata II (Maybe upgrade M2) with 8 Gig Memory.
I am going to use built in Audio card.
Seems like what nerp suggested I need look for B150 unless I can get a good deal on H170
Desi Power, I was not paying for the electric until I have moved into my house. Now I have to pay for it. As another typical DESI, now I need to be mind full of POWER wise etc.

You can ignore Z170 unless you want to overclock or find a good deal.

There can be a very good reason for choosing a Z170 board if you're planning to use the IGP. The Z170 chipset allows you to run higher-then-spec memory on all Intel CPUs. Both the Skylake CPU and GPU portions rally shine with 2800MHz memory and above.

Of course this is technically overclocking so no guarantees, and YMMV.

Is the power consumption really going to be noticeable on your electricity bill? Not sure if you are in US of A but here everything dwarfs compared to the AC usage. Then might as well look at GTX 1060, 240 watt vs 120 watt...

I would suggest going with H170 mobo, they are more popular and will have greater choice, B series iirc is more of a business mobo, greater reliability for always on PCs but less bells and whistles. On a more technical note, those have lesser PCI lanes, might not have 16x or might not have full range support for m.2 drives... but I am no expert, do your research, don't take my word for it.

I am in Canada I pay 18.0 cents/kWh. I am trying to cut corners every where, I have converted from indecent light bulbs to Day light LED, High efficiency furnace etc etc
So I guess choice comes to H170 or B150.

I'd recommend a cheap B150 board then. No reason to go H170, unless the board has a specific feature you need.

You are actually lucky. In Denmark we pay around the equivalent of CAD 48 cents/kWh.

I'd go z170 just so you can select ddr4 2400Mhz and higher. the difference in price from 2133 to 3000 is pretty low, but it does make noticeable differences speed wise. Plus you can get z170 boards for like 90$
