been scanning all morning, 208k+ Files scanned. still only about 1/2 done.

How the FVCK did i accumulate soo many files. No, there is NO Pron on there and NO MP3's. it's all business related stuff.

God, i remember when i knew exactly how many and which files I had on my harddrive. those days are waayyy wayy gone i guess. with the Win XX OS anyway.

Update.

OK, so i ran the AV via Network because it's Win2k Server and Norton won't install on it and the Server AV that i was able to DL wouldn't install.

It's no good to run AV over network. it won't get the virus. :(

SO, i put an IDE HD in my 6400 (it only had 3 SCSI HD in it) and install Win 2k Pro on the IDE had and am running AV on the 3 scsi HD's. this time i think it should work. problem with running AV over network is the server has to be on and services are running. as long as some services are running that aren't part of the OS running the AV, it won't get all the viruses.

i'm hoping with the HD's as just HD's that aren't part of the OS at all, the AV will be able to get all the viruses. :(

GRRRR. btw, i will be installing AV's on all my machines. but it still stinks. 1 time getting virus in 5 yrs. mb it's worth it NOT to run AV if i KNOW that it will only be once every 5 yrs. :)

Glad I forked over the $20 or so for the 1-year subscription to McAfee's web-based virus scanning. Of course, this was after I got nailed by Nimda/CodeRed and my cable modem was shut off when they saw my machines were sending it back out.

:) Ditto on the I don't bother with antivirus software (tried AVG for a while... free... worked just fine at finding nothing... Except, every once in a while, if I download a suspicious file, I'll open Norton's or McAfee's (whosever it is) online scan and scan just that file. I've intercepted quite a few viruses that way, but I really don't think I need to have an antivirus solution running 24/7 on my computer.

That's what I though but having IIS running on one of my machines is what got me hit. It might have been a security fix or two behind but wasn't too far behind. :(

Free AV Software, pretty decent from what I've read about it.

I'm DLing it now, but does it work on Server OS's?? most AV's dont. i did recently dl one for Win 2003 Server free, but currently i have win 2k server. once i've vaccinated it, i'll upgrade to win2003 server.

Damn, this virus really sux.

i've scanned 1.6 of my 3 hd, my last hd has the least content so it shouldn't take nearly as long to do the last HD.

gdi, this virus really really sux.

actually, not much in my IE cache. i have it set to 2 gb and 2 days. plus i never browse from my server.

i usually browse from this machine i'm on now. the one i'm running the AV program from.

it works ok, i have nortons installed on this workstation. since Norton won't allow me to install it on my server, i have it installed here than i can just scan my HD's from my server over the network.

You broke two cardinal sins
:
1.) Lack of an AV program
2.) Opening a strange email

I feel no sympathy for you. Your stupidity has come back to haunt you.

Too bad you had to learn that hard way.

Please tell me you have your data backed up... if not, you are in for a super expensive and painful mistake.
