I've never lifted in my life, and so to learn it properly I hired a personal trainer. 3 days after our first meeting my arms still kill and I dont have a full range of motion. Is this bad? Is this what its going to be like if I regularly lift? Tightness and general loss of range of motion?

Eventually, you'll just end up sleeping with your personal trainer.

No, it gets better and better. I will refrain my comments about personal trainers (certain ones in particular: Bally's) but good job on the initiative.

Eventually, the soreness will last a day at most, and but they won't be as tight if you stretch after lifting.

Nah, you won't be sore all the time. Right now it's like your muscles just woke up and they're still a little groggy. :p

I had a personal trainer, and for two months I could barely move.
I had to lift my legs with my arms to get them in the car.

And it was worth every penny.
You will always be strong, and get more out of weight training because of this.

Just keep going for 2-3 months.

Yeah I have no intention of stopping...I play a lot of sports and things so I'm athletic and in decent cardio shape, but damn! That 1 hour workout with light ass weights and I'm in the hurt box! Never could've guessed. I was just curious if I broke something or if this happens to all the lifting wussies. To be honest I'll probably only lift 3 times a week once I really learn how to do everything. I would rather run/bike/play basketball.

Yup, stretch during and after... also protein loading after the workout helps a ton to prevent soreness. Initially your muscles will be very sore, esp if you just started a new exercise. You'll get a lot strong for the first couple months and then it should taper off... but those first 2 weeks does suck. I go through it every time I stop strength training for a little while. I'm dreading it since I've been working on cardio and definition for the past month.

I'm a fan of doing a lot less volume that first day, and working up to a normal volume over the course of a week. Jumping into it with both feet and being that sore for days is stupid.

yeah I dont think my trainer realised how much of a newbie I was to the whole thing. He saw a 6'1" guy and assumed wrong...oh well.
