So I got a GTX 950

I thought Skylake had a hybrid decoder? Pretty sure it is.

HDMI 2.0 is the bigger deal with 4K tvs being much cheaper than monitors for the foreseeable future.

Broadwell was hybrid decode. Skylake brings hardware HEVC encode/decode. Kaby Lake adds HEVC 10 bit support & full hardware VP9 support.

I got an MSI GTX 950 Gaming 2G in my HTPC.

That's right , just 8 bit. Thanks.

The GTX 960-950 decoder was ahead of the game for sure.

No doubt about that. Wish there were more Nano sized cards with GM206 though. A Nano sized GTX950 without additional power connections would have made an excellent htpc card.

Hey if you're happy you're happy I just threw my opinion in. I figured you were not a gamer that would benefit from such cards but I still personally don't think k it's a good deal, but with such a hard limit in place and given your gaming selection why not?

Although my only recommendation to you next time is to check the used market, evga refurbished market, and see the performance to reward ratio of extending your budget 50-100 or of spending less and seeing the potential performance loss.

Just my own casual advice for buying cards or anything really.

I never buy used hardware. I've seen how other people live. *shudder*

It's also not so much about the money. I could have gotten a faster card but I would probably never actually experience any advantage based on my usage. In fact, CS:GO plays amazingly well even on the integrated HD530 intel graphics on this skylake chip. I honestly am coming up with specious reasons for even justifying the need for the 950.

Like I said I once was you. But now I know more.

If for $60 more you can literally get double the performance and then some. So if you were making this thread looking for people to agree with you that you're gtx 950 purchase was a great idea, I have to respectfully disagree.

I think it's a terrible idea, but if you're happy you're happy.

+$60 is a 50% increase in price. What card doubles the performance of a 950 for $180?

We're all still waiting for you to post a link to that new card that is 100% faster for only $60...........

Probably Radeon 290/X before the recent Etherium-related spike in prices.

I personally sold several of mine for $185-225 in the FS/FT forum within the past year or so.

He's stringing you all along and you're eating it up.

This guy obviously is a troll. All he does it talk about himself

People on this forum are extremely biased towards an AMD product, so much so , they will rain on your parade because you chose something other than AMD.

What kind of alternate universe are you living in? This forum has had confirmed shills from nVidia posting, some of them under-the-radar shilling. If you're going to spout nonsense, Politics and News is on the sidebar to the left.
