interesting advice lol

To me the concept of a prom is "strange". It seems to me that it is a party but with a tux and your date has a nice dress and you have a limo and basically it seems to me that the guy looses a lot of money that evening .... (i'm just babbling, so correct me if I'm wrong).

It seems like a big deal for most teens in the USA.

So there you go ....

I'm not kidding, can someone explain the whole thing a bit -- you have junior prom and senor prom and whatever prom.

Basically an overglorified dance where you spend a shitload of money for nothing.

It's a big formal dance at the end of high school. Junior prom is for junior's in high school (11th grade) and senior prom is for seniors (12th grade). Everyone dresses up, goes to a big ballroom, and has one last big party with all thier friends before they graduate and go off to universities. It's a tradition that pretty much every high school in the country does, and it's fun. That's really all there is to it, there's not some kind of profound meaning behind it, just one last big party before the end of high school.

i'm going to a "leavers ball" on friday. It's because in england, at 16, you leave school if you aren't good enough to continue, so it is kind of a "celebration".

it's now where near as fancy as your senior proms in america, prolly cause we are younger. No one takes dates or anything like that, but everyone does dress formally and go in limos with their groups of friends. Me and my friends are just gonna get wasted in the limo beforehand, cause we know it's gonna suck [don't like dancing+girls in my grade aren't anything to get excited about] so it should be good. I am takin pics and will be sure to make a thread about it on here.

And an excuse for many, many, many girls to have sex or lose their virginity. Well, according to hollywood, that is

is it like we see in the movies over here ;)
No,... they always make it seem like they all get laid on prom night, but the reality is very few actually do.

Actually a bunch of girls I know are out to lose their virginity on prom night. And by a bunch I mean like 8. I know most of the guys and they have no clue whats going on.

ya know..first thing i was thinking was...the same guy could help them all out with that virginity problem. =) ;)

Damn, thats a pretty late prom. Heck, in 2 weeks, school is out.

My sister's prom was 2 weekends ago, my neighbors prom was last week. School is out on the 23rd for those still in it.

Best advice your going to get. Seriously, it will make you more relaxed you will have a better time. And I'm told that if you are prone to pop wood while dancing close, this will help prevent it. I dont really have this problem, only sometimes, so I am not the one to vouch on this. It makes sense though.

Congrats...but dayum, 10 days? Cutting it a wee bit short on time, are we. Just show her a good time, enjoy the evening, if it's only your junior prom, take it easy. You can go all out next year. :)

Its senior prom, but it seems like not many people are going all out with limo and all that crap. Well prolly go with a group of friends anyways so it should be fun either way. Yeah 10 days is cutting it short, but it seems like only a few of the people i know even got tuxes....mabey my freinds are all just lagging too...lol.

It takes about 20 minutes to rent a tux, and yo only need to reserve it like 1 day in advance. You've got plenty of time.

Kidding right? What place is this? The shortest turnaround time at any place I've ever gone to get one is a week. On average, 2 weeks.

Same thing here. You need a week or so in advance in order to rent a tux.

I just did the prom thing, and I've got to say it was probably one of the best experiences of my life (and no, I didn't get laid; contrary to apparently popular belief, it is possible to have a great night with a girl without getting laid). All I can say is, be yourself. Don't let trying to be someone else get in the way of having fun. You only get one night to do this, so take advantage of it and have the best time you can. Just make sure everything's in order beforehand. It's not very fun to have something come up missing in your plans. Other than that, go for it! :)

Oh yea, here's a tip

A bunch of my friends went to a tux shop and offered to wear them around for a day during school and carry some business cards around if people were interested. If i had enuff referrals, I would get the tux for free. Even tho I didnt get the quota, I got a 50% discount for my efforts (all of us got the discount, but none for free)

Plus it's pretty funny to stroll into class late and give a wink and shooters to the females in class (note: this may be the only time when this does work :] )

sweet deal. This year I went to mens wearhouse and hopefully they guarentee everything they promised. I was going to change my vest color to a shade of green (dates dress color) but forgot to today. Do you think I should do that? Match colors or does my black vest and hite shirt match well enough?

EDIT: tux was 105.00 this year.... bah
