... GET a bank account. You DO realize that bank accounts and credit cards don't go hand in hand.

I assume you're still in HS? I never had a bank account throughout high school. I just dealt with cash. I endorsed all my checks to my best friend and had him cash them for me.

If you really want to, just open a free checking/savings account. No credit cards involved

1. Get a bank account.
2. Establish autodraft/allotment to pay yourself first. (10-20%)
3. Increase autodraft/allotment periodically with pay/cost of living increases.
4. Rinse, repeat.

Wow, even I was ahead of you on that one... my Dad opened up a joint account with me while I was in HS. He also got a joint credit card. I used it for all my purchases and sometimes for bigger purchases that he would pay for - that built me some really good credit.

Just go to a bank and tell them you want to start checking account. Some banks make you also open a savings account at the same time; it's not a big deal. At most they'll charge you $10 per account. It's pretty painless.

I fail to see how you even have a job, with such limited knowledge about the simplest things.

Heh, an employee of mine once asked me if she can get direct deposit without a bank.
Yes she was out of HS and just had a kid.

dude, just visit all your local banks online and look for the "free checking account" and read the fine print. There are rules that you must follow or you will get dinged with fines. Also, setup an online savings account at HSBC or emigrantdirect or ING and send some money to that account EVERY paycheck. You can even have it auto-drafted. Don't touch the money in the savings account unless it's an emergency. Buying beer/pot/computer equipment/bling does NOT qualify as an emergency.

Get a bank account.

You're not obligated by law to have a credit card if you have a bank account. And a credit card will not automatically ruin your life. It's called self-control. If you have some, get a credit card. If you don't, don't get a credit card.

As far as how to get a bank account... walk into a bank and ask about free checking accounts. If they don't have one, say thank you and walk out. Once you find a bank that has one, they'll be able to answer all of your questions.

get a checking account, and a bank card, and as for no over draft. you are your own accountant, and if you don't build even the slightest credit, you can kiss new cars and houses goodbye.

Get a checking account and get a credit card. Don't spend like a jack ass with your credit card and pay it off every month and you will be fine.
