The screen is cracked so I could not get into the phone book/contacts to start the investigating to find out who it belongs to. Battery dies shortly after turning it on anyway.

I call up Verizon (my carrier also) and explain whats what. I was hoping to be able to give the ESN or SN and they could look up who it belongs to and then call them directly and give them my number so as to avoid Verizon having any suspicion of this being some kind of identity theft situation.

No deal. Verizon is of no help at all over the phone. They explain they dont do those sort of things through phone in customer service:confused: I am dissappointed in you Verizon:(

Anyway, next stop, the Verizon store on the other side of town....sigh

I think you're going through too much trouble for a broken phone. The person probably just called it in as lost and got a new phone anyways.

Even though it is broken, I still feel the owner might want it back. Hell, I would. Its a top of the line camera phone.;)

OP:  for trying. I'll remember that if I ever feel the need to change cell providers.

Find a Verizon store and drop it off. They can look up SN's on the phone to see who's account it's tied to and call them (haha).

Heheh. I've found 2 cells, phoned the home stored #'s on both. One guy gave me a fin, the other a 10 spot.
