So I flashed my BIOS....

...now my cpu temp is around 65 deg C idle, and 70 deg C fully loaded with a game (according to Via hardware monitor). My mobo is an Abit KT7A-RAID. Before i flashed the temps were around 45 deg C idle and 70 fully loaded. I know my cooling isnt great.

Should I be worried? Should (if possible) flash the BIOS to a previous version? Should I invest in a better case and fan/heatsink? (which is something I plan to do anyway, there is only about 1cm between the top of the cpu fan, and the bottom of the psu!)

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Forgot to say, the cpu is an athlon 1GHz

Nope, this is normal.

Abit got rid of CPU idle cooling on later bios revisions because it caused instability with higher rated cpus (>1.2Ghz). This is no problem - all cpus used to work without idle cooling before this ACPI junk came along.

In effect your CPU is no longer shutting down when it's idle, so the temp will be a constant(ish) value equal to your fully loaded temps before the flash.

As for the temps, I'd consider getting a better heatsink, or if you don't intend to use faster processors in the future, flash back to a pre-3R bios if no problems were present in your system before.

I'm currently running 3R, and think it's the best bios release to date for my set-up.
