As much as I was impressed by the thinness and the weight, the part that absolutely made me appreciate it was how insanely nice and bright the screen was.

It was on a table with a 15" MBP w/ LED as well as a Macbook, and to be honest, there was NO comparison. The screen on the air was significantly brighter, with better contrast, deeper darks, smooth colors... I absolutely LOVED it.

It didn't feel horribly slow, but it was noticeably slower than the other computers they had sitting there, boot took nearly a minute.

The backlight keyboard was superb as well. Very sturdy and firm like the Macbook keyboard, with the added benefit of a backlight.

If they slapped the LCD and backlit keyboard from the Air into a normal Macbook, i would buy it in a second.

Overall I liked it, it was very thin, but still IMO, overpriced. $1399 seems like the right price for it to me.

Did you compare the Air to the new MBP, or the old revision? The screens have improved significantly on the MBP.

new revision, matte.

I dunno, maybe the Glossy LED MBP is better, but the MBAir was REALLY bright.

I looked at it a few days ago. It looks cool, but it's not for me. For those people who need something that light and thin, I'm sure it's worth it.

On the other hand, I need 1394b, expresscard and dual-link DVI. It all comes down to what what each user requires.

They are - save your money. Stevie said that ALL Apple products would have LED backlights by the end of 2008, so the 13" MacBooks will be getting an LED update later this year.

Yeah...I'm surprised the OP said the screen looked better on the Air. I had an LED 15" MacBook for awhile and I've never seen a better laptop screen, period. I'll have to check it out in person some time :)

Did you have a glossy or matte screen? OP based his MBP comparison on the matte screen which would be less bright than a glossy

I had a glossy LED 15", but I haven't seen the Air yet.
