I have an idea for a web site finally. It involves value investing but an area of study that is not keyed on anywhere that I have found. But it is a very important topic in value investing. I will not state what it is. But it is information I want to research anyways. I figure spending a little extra time reporting my research to others could be profitable via Google ads.

So, how hard would it be to set up a site with links to articles and links to information ion various stocks. For exmaple, type in PFE and it will provide any data I have. I guess I would also need to track what stocks people are interested in tat I have not researched.

I'd also toss in a forum even though there is another site I would like to team up with and share the forum with them. I don't want to give my idea away though. I honestly don't know if I would get enough traffic to warrant a forum.

My background is software engineering (not web dev). I suppose I would need to learn a bit about web development and how to get my site hosted. I'll figure this part out on my own, but I was generally wondering how hard it would be to do all of this?

all depends on how you set it up.

ideally, you save your articles in database tables and have a common template page in something like php which transforms that data into formatted articles on your web site. this allows you to modify your layouts easily without changing a wide array of html pages or anything like that. you could also search your content easily via SQL, and can also filter your content being published onto those pages to capture certain keywords like "PFE" which automatically converts it into a hyperlink

You could go from 0 to full-fledged site in less than a month.

I like to say the hardest part about web design is the content.

If you can figure out how to set up and run a content management system like Wordpress you can be up and running in a few hours. It has built-in searching and really works like having a blog on any random blogging site. You can add your own keywords to come up in searches, allow commenting and everything.

You have no idea what I am doing in regards to value investing. I highly doubt either site has what I plan on providing. I know fool.com doesn't. Maybe seeking alpha ... I'll check there.

EDIT: If seeking Alpha has the information I plan on providing, I have to tell you that it is not obvious on how to find it. So, I think they do not provide the data I have in mind.

Honestly speaking, you have more chances of making more money from investing in the markets than through this scheme. However, if you do end up doing it, PM me. I'd be very interested in seeing how it progresses, and maybe lending some networking help to get it off the ground. I have a grad position at an investment bank so I may be able to bring in viewers if your idea is good.

I'd be glad to get you involved. I figure if I can make $1,000 a month that will be more than a sufficient amount to attempt it. I have to figure out what kind of expectations to have though. It really is an important topic I plan on keying in on, but a topic that most ignore. And a topic that I havn't found a web site keying in on.

OK, I tried Google out for a while and no web sites host the information I want to host. Even if they do exist, they don't make themselves easy to find.

One of the few articles on the topic that I found was at fool.com and their write up sucked and had nothing to do with the topic. I hate to say it but fool.com is not that good of a web site. They do have a handful of good valuation articles but overall the site is useless. People that take their advice for decision making is bst off in an index fund.
