so i finally got hurt on my bike

halik

Lifer
so going back from one of my classes,
i was rolling up to a light at like 10 mph. Somehow I missed the peg by a little bit and put weight on the shifter. Well the bike shifted to first gear and since i was going like 10 mpg and 0 throttle, it stalled out... not only that, but it was also in gear,so the bike stopped on the spot.

Needless to say thanks to inertia, my body kept on going till it was stopped by my crotch impacting the tank... i think ill start riding with a pillow over my jewels or something, i was not expecting that to happen

I"ve done that many times. Also, a couple of times when I thought I was in 3rd, I downshifted but in reallity I was in 2nd. So as soon as I shifted into second my rear wheel spun and I barely held on to the bike.

ditto

As for the down shifting tire squeal. Try revving the bike a little before you let out the clutch. The reason the back tire pulls out is because of the quick change in RPMs, therefore get your RPMs up before you shift (short and quick version)

Engine braking can be a real pain (literally) 😀.

Most bikes can handle 2nd and even 3rd gear if you are rolling (especially a V-Twin). I'd rather lug in the wrong gear than risk a highside or stall from engine braking spinning/skidding/stopping the rear wheel.
