So I finally got a VF700 for my 6600GT

Got around to buying a VF700 at last, thanks to the stock fan dying on me. Temps are nice btw, 40 °C load and 34 °C idle in Silent mode. 🙂

Thing is, there's no room for the RAM sinks on the 6600GT, so now I got 8 of those little blue things to stick on stuff. I could put 3 of them on the MOSFET (one on each pair, perfect fit). Is there anything else that's worth using one on? The 6600GT is the only expansion card I have, I could put them on something on either that or the mobo.

Any tips?

looks like you bought the agp version. don't bother with the ramsinks. they hardly affect the temperature. i sold my ramsinks for $9.

You sure about that? Note that there's plenty of airflow around to cool them (they're right between the 92mm CPU fan and a 120mm exhaust fan). I've read some interesting stuff about sinking the MOSFET reducing temperatures all around.

Pretty sure he means they don't affect the temp. of the video card. Ramsinks on video card ram (and almost all ram) in general doesn't make much of a difference. Wish I had the links to some of the articles I've read, but for the most part you can't force a higher overclock out of ram by adding heatspreaders/ramsinks.

Mosfets though, yes, they can come in very handy.

Oh, right. Well, wasting them on the vid card RAM isn't an issue, as the chips are so close to the GPU that they wouldn't even fit under the heatsink.

Used them on the MOSFET, and I think my CPU temp dropped a degree or two, perhaps the NB did as well. Neat.

Anything else that may benefit from some cooling? Southbridge, network adapter etc?
