So I finally found a htpc software pack i like...

Boxee has a lot of promise, but is still in an unfinished state.
For stored media, XBMC is head and shoulders better.
For streaming video, there's not much else worthwhile besides Hulu, thus just go with the Hulu player.

Hopefully boxee gets its issues sorted out by the release of the boxee box.

XBMC is pretty good at streaming. Err, if you mean on a local network. Boxee's focus is on Internet video, but there's a lack of quality sources. Eventually they'll have fancast, so it can supplement a cable subscription.
 
well, i have used several including miro, xmbc, etc. didnt like either that well. so i tried boxee. not a fanboy by any means, but by far its the best one i have used...
