Bought a Samsung 204B for home earlier this year. After using this thing, my little 17" dell at work aggravates me :p

how long has that entire life been? Dell's have been the best value (along with some other prebuilts) for a long time now.

Unless you have special needs or need an uber gaming machine, an off the shelf unit is >>>>>>>>>>> anything else.

My rig has evolved since the 90's only the case is the same.

dell has some deals that cannot be beaten though (unless you bootleg your os). They have systems for ~$300 that theres no way in hell you could build yourself (that cheap)

No way in hell I would get my parents anything other than a pre-built system.

I build computers for people, and I will tell anyone who asks for a low priced desktop to go with Dell. Some of the deals they have are mind blowing. I had priced a system for somebody, I used newegg for everything so the prices were close to as good as I'd get without shopping 5 different sites. It was $155 more than the Dell, that was the tower/monitor only, no OS. Add the OS + my building fee, forget about it. I told them to buy a Dell because it would be over $200 less. For a basic desktop you can't do better, those users don't care about dual cores, dx10, uber fast memory none of that. If the system gets them online and can do basic shit they'll be happy.

You mean you don't wanna get calls every other hour about how to do this and that?

It's hard to beat an OEM system with Windows license, 20" LCD and 1 year tech support for $500.

That's exactly it, and when an issue comes up, sometimes just being able to blame Dell even if it's not related to the issue is worth it :D

I just bought an Acer PC.

Athlon 64 X2 4000+
1 GB ram
250GB HD
DVD burner
Vista Home Premium
Final price = $210 (no rebates)

If you can build a complete system for that cheap, and I'll gladly buy it.

this week I got an inspiron 531 (x2 3800, 1gb, dvdrw, 160, vista) for $229 with free shipping

it's the CC deal where you buy it with a monitor, get a "bundle discount" then return the monitor. CC's system returns the whole value of the monitor instead of prorating the bundle discount.

And that is unethical because...?

Ah in that case, I'm not interested.

With a coupon and price match at the time, you could've gotten the computer and a 22" Acer monitor for $350ish, which IMO is quite the steal without any shady methods.

That's kinda a shitty thing to do.

I *totally* should have done that, because I bought the PC for 210$ 2 weeks ago...

...and today I bought a 22" for an additional 220$ :frown:

But what about price-matching a 229.99 LCD to another store's same model for 100 dollars and then finding out the 229.99 LCD had a 40 dollar rebate? Then repeat that three times for three different individuals?

Yeah. I bet you never jumped on a price mistake because that's unethical too. Double standards FTL!

As far as I know I haven't.

Because you're taking advantage of a deficiency in the system to get a deal that is not what they were offering. It's kind of like buying an item at one store and returning it at Walmart. Yeah, they'll let you do it, but that doesn't mean it's right.

But if you really had to ask, the whole concept of ethics is lost on you...
