So, I did my civic duty on Wednesday....

Well, I was hanging out at home on Wednesday, and I noticed this guy I recognized from past experience checking out the house next door. I knew it was the son of the lady who lived there, his name was Tom, and he had broken into houses here before. I know the people who live there, and this kid is homeless, and is always in and out of trouble. When I first saw him, it looked like he was just knocking at the front door, which isn't super unusual since his mother lives there, but she was not home at the time.

I watched him out my side window for awhile and it became apparent he was trying to break in. He tried a couple times to force the front door, then he went around back for a couple minutes. He came back around to the front again and started trying to pry open the front window, then he gave that up and went over to check the greenhouse window on the side of the house. A girl was walking by at this point, so he sort of stopped and just tried to look like he was doing nothing. After she passed by, he went back around to the front and I saw him pushing in the cellar window. He must have opened it because I saw him turn around and disappear into the house. At this point I tried to call the homeowners since it was her son, but I didn't know their number. I called a buddy of mine who knew it, but he didn't answer, so I called the cops.

The cops came fast, and came without sirens. They parked away from the house, and started approaching it. At this point, one of the homeowners came home, apparently once I called, it was on the police scanner, and someone in town heard it and called him. So, they all went in, and I guess they found him in a closet. The cops came over and took a statement from me, and thanked me. They said people don't usually call when they see something. A few more cops came, along with about 4 detectives, and I spoke to a few of them. The other homeowner came home at this point because Roland, her BF who lives there with her and came home first, called her.

So, they carted him away...and he gave me a look because he knew I was the one who called. They took a bunch of pictures and took evidence and finally left. I thought it was all done, but my neighbor at 3 Kimberly came home around 4pm, and knocked on my door. He said he had been broken into. I went over there with him, and sure enough, he had come in through the front window, busted the screen, and a shelf on the window sill. I told him about what happened, and he called the cops. I guess he had broken in there, right next door to me while I was home, before he went to his mothers place...and I never heard anything. It was hot so I had my place all closed up with the A/C's going, and never heard a thing. I wasn't suprised though because up until the end of July, my buddy had been living next door for 10 years, and Tom had broken in there before. He probably had no idea that he had moved and thought he still lived there.

Anyway...my neighbor went to the police station and found they had some of his stuff, but not a jewelry box and a couple rings. Apparently at this point, he had confessed to both robberies, and he told them the jewelry box was in the woods nearby. My neighbor and I went down and started looking, and found the box after a little bit. We had to wait for the detectives to come and photograph it and claim it as evidence, but his rings were not inside. After the cops left, we looked around some more and found his rings hidden under a nearby rock.

So, all in all it worked out well...as much as I hate dealing with the police. The bad guy got arrested and will be in jail for awhile. The mother is not as worried now because she will know where he is, and that he has a roof over his head for the forseeable future, and everyone got their stuff back. I shouldn't have to testify either since he confessed.

Here's the news story from the local paper...

2. Called police

3. Police arrest guy in house

4. PROFIT!!!

Good for you. Cops are usually good about responding to burglary calls because there's usually a substantial amount of property and investigation involved.

good job, just watch out when he gets released from prison...its odd the police made it so obvious it was you

i know where i grew up whenever alarm systems went of or whatnot the police would always say "a neighbor called"

may want to watch your back and your stuff in case he has friends and wants revenge. but otherwise, damn good for you

No idea why I hit the reply button before typing something 😕

Anyhow, I hope my neighbours are like you! I remember in Grade 3, I saw these 2 adults tackle another student and took him into a van. No one was home so I just called the cops and told them what happened, and they found them later on 😀

Nah, he's so skinny I'm not worried, plus, he's been in toruble so many times before, he's going to be in prison for awhile...

I actually used to talk to him years ago. He lived over there and wasn't really that bad..just got involved with the wrong people and didn't want to get a job like a normal person. He's not violent or nasty at all...actually very laid back. I actually hope for his mother's sake he gets some help while he's away...and at least he will have 3 meals a day and a place to live. He was living in the woods nearby...

Oh one funny thing...

The homeowner found him in the closet before the cops did, and he looked at him and gave him the "quiet" signal. He looked at him like..yeah right, and called the cops down...lololol.

😀

Just realized the Union Leader story isn't wuite right...but no big deal..

A gold watch and a burgundy-colored jewelry box were reported stolen from Kimberly Drive. These items were found in Milton's backpack with the stolen change, KillKelly said.

The watch was in his backpack, but the jewelry box was in the woods...we found it.
