So, I did it....

Short version:

1). I'm an idiot
2). Different machine has the kernel patch I need
3). Noticed /etc/fstab on said machine looked different
4). Changed my /etc/fstab to look like other one
5). Can't boot machine now, since it can't mount /boot and /. Drops me into a shell, but it's read-only so I can't change it
6). Profit?

Ok, post what you have now, plus what drives and partitions are what.

Example

I have one hard drive with 3 partitions
sda1 - / and /boot
sda2 - /home
sda5 - swap

 

[stevf]

boot from a live cd, mount appropriate drive, edit /etc/fstab, save, reboot

From a little googling, this seems to be the only option.

Hey...if "you" had installed the kernel patch in the first place, I never would have done this! It's not like I *like* Unix hacking, and do it for fun and pleasure! I hate it, suck at it, and consider it entirely beneath me. =]
