So I convinced someone who works for Circuit City to hold a Wii for me..

I'm going to buy it for retail price; supposedly they are getting a large shipment this Saturday. I know I can never be 100% sure until then but I honestly believe he is going to hold it. The guy is the younger brother of friend I had in HS years ago.

Obviously I'm going to buy Mario Galaxy, that is the primary reason I want the Wii (I have a PS3). I'll borrow Metroid and Zelda from a buddy who has had a Wii since its release.. after that I'm not really sure whats worth playing.

At this point I'm just really excited to have a legit shot at nabbing one so close to Christmas.. there was no way I was going to wait in line somewhere or sit outside waiting for a store to open in the early AM. I would rather have just waited till after Christmas to buy one.

Man I can't wait to play Mario :D

Anyway, I'll update to let you guys know if it actually happens... if anything, since he does work at CC I'd be looking for an extra $50 on the top to line his pocket, but even then its a better deal than fleabay.

Sell it. About the only thing that isnt overrated on the Wii is Mario Galaxy.

Yea seriously. I'm bored with my Wii. There isn't enough GOOD games out for it. Hell I got so bored that I bought The Godfather, Need for Speed Carbon, and Metal Slug Anthology

Yeah, thats what I predicted a year ago.

After the novelty of the controller wears off...
After the usual Nintendo only must have games like Metroid and Zelda are done with...
After the rush to get one before someone else does...

What is left for the Wii besides Scooby Doo and Spongebob and Dora the Explorer games ported over from the $5 Gamecube bin?

I think much of the demand for the Wii is more like Ipods and RAZRs and PS3s, it's a "look what I have and you can't get" type of fashion statement. Which in turn creates artificial demand in the way of a self fulfilling prophecy of people who buy it simply because it's perceived to be limited supply.

While the number of games to start out with was small, being the best seller means it's going to attract the most developers. There are already more games in development for the Wii than there are for the PS3.

Just because there are tons of developers, doesn't mean everyone wants to keep playing minigames on their Wii.

The next game I'm looking forward to is Mario Kart. I'm on the fence about Smash Brothers.

that would be something if he did manage to hold it for you, he may be risking his job? Wii is in such high demand that they probably do not allow employees to buy them, much less hold them for people.

it's also a lot easier to get shovelware onto Nintendo products than it is an MS or Sony product.

If by more games, you mean more trash like ninjabread man, then yes you are correct.

Agreed. A vast majority of 3rd party titles on the Wii are trash.

geez, so much hate for the wii. I don't have time to play all the time. i just recently finished metroid, and am working through mario (altho, i am working through mario far faster than i normally do, heh). I pick up bowling still every so often. not to mention rayman with friends.. that's always good for a laugh, especially when half of them are a bit tipsy... heh. hell, elebits is surprisingly entertaining.

I'll leave NFS prostreet for the xbox, the steering wheel is a must for those games for me.. but i only jump in an play randomly after my friends unlock everything, heh.

Because its a fighting game, and with all other fighting games, I love it for about 2 weeks then never touch it again.

I just hope it ends up like the PS2: lots and lots of crappy games, but plenty of good games and some downright awesome games.

I have no clue what the policy on this is at CC and there is no way I'm going to ask and risk scaring him, heh

He's not a friend, I didn't even remember his name until he approached me..

IMO this kind of stuff probably happens all the time and he doesn't seem to really care about his job there as it is. If there is a policy to stop things like this from happening he would know what it is to a greater extent than I do and at the same time he hasn't asked for any money over retail yet..

I can see where you're coming from but I honestly think he really doesn't care, knows his manager doesn't care, o r there is no policy against it.

Didn't happen. According to him his manager got in trouble for attempting to hold too many Wii's... which almost sounds legit. He called me before I even bothered driving to the store. Apparently he is 'first' on the list of employees to get one held on their shipment coming this Sunday.

I don't care enough to wake up at 7am and drive around on a Sat/Sunday looking for one... if it falls through again this time I'll just wait until after the holidays, but I really do want to play Mario :D

Nintendo would have had me guaranteed with this system had Twilight Princess been Wii exclusive. But since it was on GC, there is absolutely nothing motivating me to get a Wii. There really didn't seem to be any good games on the horizon for it a year ago, just rehashes of old concepts like Metroid and Mario (yeah, Zelda is a rehash, but it's my favorite rehash!). Looking at the Wii now, I still don't see much on the horizon.

I think I'm gonna grab a 360 soon. But I have to wait until like February cuz I have nil dinero right now.
