So the wife and I get home last night at like 2am from a wedding 70 miles away. Exhausted. Looking forward to sleeping in on Sunday morning. Someone's car alarm was going off in our apartment complex. It's a quiet apartment community, but car alarms are not out of the ordinary, so I think nothing of it as my head hits the pillow.

But that car alarm kept going off. It went off, then went silent for MAYBE 30 seconds to a minute, and then went off again. Over and over, all night long. I closed the windows and tried to sleep through it, but it just didn't work at all.

At 5:50am I finally was so completely sick of it that I decided I'd had enough, so I decided to walk the dog early and wander in the direction of the car alarm. Maybe leave a note or something.

It's a Toyota Camry, and this idiot's fucking car is just sitting in a parking space, not close to anything (so wtf on the proximity sensor?). Windows/doors all closed and intact, so no break-in or anything. So I'm pretty pissed off. If I can hear this car alarm from a third of the way across a 500-unit complex, why can't this idiot hear his own alarm?

That's when the two police cruisers and a tow truck show up. They had received a bunch of calls about it already. Apparently they already tried contacting the owner of the vehicle, with no success.

It's now 6:25am and there is no more car alarm, because there is no more Toyota Camry. Sweet, sweet justice.

CLIFFS:

1) Car alarm going off in apt complex every 30sec from 2am-6am.
2) Nothing wrong with offender's car.
3) Police show up and actually do something about it. IMPOUNDED.
4) Win. Sweet silence.

Ugh, I feel for you man. Unattended car alarms are just the worst (that, and unmonitored, unattended house alarms). Good to hear something go done about it, even if it took 4 hours.

well, alarm fails when people just ignore it.

in this case, his car is gone because he ignores it....

This is why RPGs need to be legalized. That problem would have been solved lickety split with the proper application of explosives.

good point, someone needs to break into his apartment and make sure.

If he's alive, he gets a broken door for being an asshole. If he's dead, his body is discovered. Win-win!

Reminds me of when Typhoon Paka hit Guam, back in December of 97. Hotel across the street from my apartment building had rooms they rented by the month. Jerkweed living in one of them left his car alarm activated (versus hitting the valet button and silencing it) during the storm.

Every time the wind gusted, his alarm went off. It would go off for 2-5 minutes, then quit. Then the next wind gust would hit, and it would go off again. This happened ALL NIGHT LONG!!! Even after the dangerous winds had died down, we'd still get an occasional gust, and it would go off again (long after he should have come out and disabled it, but didn't).

Of course, the power was out, and I was sleeping in the front room, with the window open (to keep from dying in the heat & humidity while trying to sleep), and got to listen to this thing go off all night long.

I seriously considered breaking out my .30-06, and using his POS for target practise that night!! :|
