so I cant stop coughing and its been a week and a half now

I got a bad cold and thats gone but the associated cough has been around for almost 2 weeks now. Ive been coughing so bad my face has been swelling up and my eyes are all bloodshot. I dont have health insurance so I will only go to the doc if its really serious. Would this be one of those serious situations?

by now there is nothing that you can do. it is probably on its way out of your system. i would guess your cough will go away in the next few days if you see the doc or not.

If it's so bad your face is swelling up, you might want to get it looked at.

Hot brown tea is good to relieve coughing. The hot water with the tannic acid help clean out your throat.
Add lemon to the tea for additional vitamin C.
Add honey to the tea for sweetener and to soothingly coat your throat.

If this does not help, then it would probably be a good idea to see a doctor.
All a doctor would do is prescribe anti-biotics.

as bad as this sounds...

i have heard chewing on ginger root (to get the juices out) and then swallowing it works wonders on your throat/chest/cough... kind a natural remedy...

i've never tried it though, seeing that, i hate ginger...

I got whooping cough...basically severe bronchitis

it was horrible, I went through 2x sets of antibiotics and one night I had to call 911 b/c all of a sudden my chest was in immense pain and I could bearly breathe...thought I was having a heart attack. Later found out that it was a muscle spasm around where bronchitial tubes are...

Sounds like you got the same head & chest cold crap I came down with over 2 weeks ago, and am STILL coughing up mucus...unless you have developed pnumonia, it should get better slowly.
