So I can save $2200 if I postpone my honeymoon 5 months

We are getting married in June but the honeymoon isn't paid for yet. My fault. I have been busy and thought that I could do it in 5months. But it appears that Italy is more expensive in June and the flights that were $1000 6 days ago are now $1400. If I push it back 5 months we will save more than $2200. It will also be a better tour package that we get for the money.

We will instead go on a 3 day cruise for our honeymoon. I havn't broken the news to her yet.

Would you guys just blow the $2200 and go on the honeymoon right after or save some dough and take it as a first vacation together?

How many of you did your honeymoons after the fact?

My parents did a mini vacation for their honeymoon, they did their BIG honeymoon 25 years after the fact, but it included everything they wanted and lasted in the vicinity of about a month.

At the time of their marriage they couldn't afford the honeymoon they wanted so they waited. Don't break the news, present the option to save the money and take a cruise ALSO.

Wait - so you're going to Italy in November? Is Italy good in November? Weather, that is.

You better not "break it to her" like that. Instead, bring it up as a discussion and get a feeling as to what she thinks about it. If she sounds like she will be okay waiting five months (I doubt it) then wait and save the money. If not, don't even bring it up and avoid an argument.

Plus mugs brings up a good point. The reason Italy is more expensive in June is because it is better to go Europe in the summer. Who wants a honeymoon where it is cold and raining all the time???

Where are you flying from? And do you plan on spending your whole honeymoon in Italy?

Are you flying Economy or Business/First class?

Economy, Seems Orlando is a cheap hub

Orlando to Italy should not be $1400. Try flying out on Mon/Tue/Wed and flying back on Sun/Mon/Tue.

Newark, NJ to Europe is generally $450 off peak and $800 peak. I cant imagine Orlando being alot more expensive than that.

Excellent advice and the way to go, IMO. Important parts bolded, above.

Italy in June might have some pretty hot weather. Bring that up.. I've heard it best to go in the spring or fall. October would probably be better than November though?

I've heard from several newlyweds that they actually didn't enjoy having to rush right into the honeymoon after the wedding... they wanted to spend the time with family, etc. Maybe a wait isn't the worst thing in the world.
