For some reason, I have a feeling that I paid more taxes than you do.
at least i dont take them back
All in due time my friend, all in due time! (not that I wish it upon you). Especially in the IT field, any thing can happen.

My wife and I got $290 when we were laid off which was the max in Atlanta (I only got two weeks of unemployment fortunately). Just be happy you are getting something and not having to flip burgers until you can find something else.

wish we could get more IT people at my job, they're pulling me all over the damn place and it's pissing me off!!

someone willing to work in Nicholasville KY can get a job REALLY easy...

I make like....let's see here....128+(12x13), Less than that 😉 working 4 days a week 🙂 I'm just a kiddy though.

The damn bastards only allow me a max of $370.00 a week, so what the hell have I been paying all these damn taxes for?

1) $370 is more than I make each week (well, I am a student network admin and can *only* work 30 hours)
2) Taxes cover more than just unemployment
3) Stop complaining... it's free money

On the other hand, I guess it depends where you live. Personally, I live in a college town, and thus $370/week can go pretty far...

Crypticburn

I collected the max from MA for about 4 months. $506 /week.

I believe Washington state is the highest in the country.

yup, i second that.. just learned it in my tax course. your employer pays the unemp fees, upto $70 per employee per year or something.. but just so you know, you'll have to pay taxes on the unemp check that you collect 😛 you'll get a 1099-whatever from the govt.. think it's like 10%

man, if yer making $370 a week sitting on your ass, "looking for a job" i really wouldn't complain "i'm not getting much.." sucks you have to be in unemp btw, but think of it as paid a lil less time off for 39 weeks. or until you find yourself a new gig

A "lil less"? I don't know about you, but I couldn't even begin to survive on $370/week.

I believe they look at your average over a period of time. If you were making $32 for a few years then you made $100k for 6 mos, they're not going to pay you based on that $100k.

It might not be that way everywhere, but that's what I remember from my state's unemployment office.

That is what personal savings are for. Unemployment benefits are to assist you in gaining employment, not to cover your living expenses.

Well then you obviously havent planned for the future.

Anyone that hasnt planned for the future, and then bitches about unemployment, well cry me a river..

In PA payout of unemployment is based on the the first four of the last five completed quarters, so if you got laid off today you would start in september count back 15 months and you would use money earned in the first 12 months. How much you get would be based on the high income you had in anyone of those four quarters.

The employer also pays the unemployment tax in PA, the more you lay people off the higher the rate. Used to be max rate of 10% of the first $8000- 0 after that it may have changed though
