So I built my HTPC

and the picture is worse than before - I am desperately trying to figure out why.

I have two input sources coming into my HTPC: one is analog cable the other is digital satellite receiver. The sat receiver signal is perfect: nice and sharp very little noise. The cable signal sucks hard. I am using the same TV and same analog cable so I figure the picture quality should not be different.

I'm using SageTV 5.0 with a Hauppauge PVR-500MCE tuner card. The graphics card is a GeForce 7600 GT from MSI.

I have the nVidia decoder installed and I verified it is my preferred decoder.

I wonder if the noise reduction filter needs to be turned on? Is it not on by default?

Basically the cable picture looks too noisy. I can watch it but it's irritating.

any ideas?
