Well I finally bit the bullet and ordered an SSD. I missed a few sales this last week then found a decent deal on Amazon.

The SAMSUNG 830 128GB SATA III drive with the Desktop Upgrade Kit (MZ-7PC128D/AM) for $140. I had hopped to get a 256GB model but I just couldn't afford it.

Now I just have to wait a week for it to get here since I can't afford Prime either.

What all do you plan on installing on it?

I'm waiting to just get a 256GB SSD (to replace my tiny 60GB one) so I can put EVERYTHING on it (besides media files.)

I'm still debating on cloning to the new one vs another clean W7 install... and having to reconfigure everything.

Windows, Office, and the rest of my software that will fit, all my media is going to stay on my spindle drives.

I'm probably not going to fit any games on it. I was hoping to get a 256GB so I could fit a few games at a time. My next upgrade will be a second drive just for software & games because I do a bit of hobbyist video & photography. I'm also getting into programming so I have Visual Studio and similar software.

I'm very disappointed in Micron (Crucial) & Intel right now. They could very easily ramp up their 25nm NAND production yet they've chosen not to. I'm really happy that Samsung has come out swinging with Plextor making a decent offering as well. SSDs shouldn't be more than $1 per Gigabyte now.

1 dollar per 1GB ,,, would make the Sammy 830 512GB would mean 500 dollars.

Right now the 512GB version is 700 hundred dollars.... Doesn't make sense, CPU should be more important,, and its twice the price of a killer CPU... sighs g,

Gosh make it like 550 dollars at the most. not 800 dollars,,,,,,

Also Samsung 830 120GB first post,,,,, have you tried the WEI ,, what score you get for hard drive? I want one that is 7.9 , I wanna double check this.. thanks boss

Buy a USB docking station, download and install the free version of EaseUS ToDo Backup and clone everything from your existing HDD to your new SSD.

Remove your old HDD, install your new SSD and all will be as it was.

Be sure to check the box marked "Optimize for SSD" and check the box to shut down your computer when the transfer is complete.

Later, if you add or remove anything from your new SSD you can clone the new settings to your old HDD with the same procedure and if anything goes wrong reverse the SSD and HDD, clone the good data from the HDD back to the SSD. Switch them back.

I/O has been throttling our CPUs since forever. If you can afford it, it's worth it.
