austin, did you ever play Jak and Daxter?

that is one of my all time favorite games (and i think i'm going to actually buy it - it's $6 used) and I played Jak 2 and hated it.

i am curious as to how Jak 3 compares to Jak and Daxter, if you have an opinion on that.

Jak 2 was all dark and dreary and was similar to GTA, and it focused more on gunplay and platforming. i just hated it.

never played I or II. just read that III was the best so I played that one. I liked it, but not nearly as much as many of the other games I mentioned.

Great selection! I sold my PS2 three years back and missed some of the best/last games to come out. In the past year I have "borrowed" my sisters PS2 and played some of the games I have missed. Here are the games and my thoughts:

Jak III ---> great platformer and a lot of fun

God of War I & II ---> 2 of my favorite games of all-time

DQVIII ---> Awesome.Awesome.Awesome. Almost a little too cutesy, but still, the game is perfect.

FFXII ---> Just starting to get into it. Really good.

Shadow of the Colussus ---> Amazing. Just simply great. And please, don't use a hint book. I did on two or so of the bosses and its more fun to figure it out yourself.

Devil May Cry 3 SE ---> Not really my cup of tea.

Resident Evil 4 ---> Masterpiece and a must play. 520p to boot too.

Metal Gear Solid 3 SE ---> Hated it. Waaaaaayyy to much talking, not enough playing. Also, incredibly hard.

Guitar Hero I & II. Both all-time classics.

Now that you mention it, I also picked up RE4 and FFXII as well. RE4 was awesome, but what do you mean by 520p?

I am about 55 hours into FFXII and I don't think I am close to the end yet. This game is just MASSIVE. I am not a fan of the new battle system though, but it's not too bad.

I want to pick up Odin Sphere and Persona 3 sometime too.

I played GoW on a friend's PS3 and was very impressed. I was really tempted to buy a PS3 until they killed the backwards compatibility.

Well, the 80 GB models still have good BC... and if look around a bit you may still be able to find a 60 GB. I was still seeing 60 GB models mixed in with 80 GB models right up to Christmas. I haven't specifically looked for one since then though.

Wow, I had no idea! I stopped reading up on the PS3 after they made their announcement that the new SKU's wouldn't be backwards compatible.

So what's the difference (besides 20GB) between the 80GB and the older 60GB?

60gb is all hardware emulation since it has the PS2 emotion engine chip in the PS3.

80gb is all software emulation.

I forget the exact %'s but the 60gb is slightly more compatible.

that said, I got Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank 2, and Ratchet and Clank 3 the other day for $29 from ebgames 🙂

FYI (might as well throw this here)

No GoW 3 until x-mas 2009!
Kind of a bummer, but I agree with many others on the topic of delays and long development times: Better that than a buggy or substandard title because it was rushed to decrease costs.

I'm not that far into FFXII. I haven't played in about 4 months, since I started a new job. Just took a ship or something to a city in the air. I think I'm about 12 hours into the game.

As for 520p, in the instruction manual, you press certain buttons when you turn the game on to play in progressive scan mode. Weirdly, its not 480p but rather 520p or something in the 500s.

80gb is part-software. If it were all software, there wouldn't be a problem for the 40gb.

60gb is supposed to be in the upper 90's for compatibility while the 80gb was in the 80's.

I grabbed GoWII as a rental the other day since all the good PS3 titles were out. Holy crap do the cutscenes look incredible. If you had shown me those I never would have guessed it was a previous gen title.

In game graphics are certainly behind what Heavenly Sword or Uncharted can do, but gameplay is still great.

Really makes the extra $100 I spent on the BC 80 gig worth it. Shadows of the Collosus is next up in the list.

 Shadow of the Colossus is an awesome game. There's not much to it, pretty much just a string of boss battles, but it is great fun. I've played through about 75% of it and hopefully one of these days I'll finish it up.

I love the GoW series. Never played them until I got my PS3, but once I did they were amazing, and kept me hooked. Sadly they're beatable in a weekend, but still. But for some reason I thought they looked better at 480p then they did upscaled. Shadow of Collossus was cool too, but it was too simple and the colors were really bland. Sadly I lost interest about 2 hours in. There wasn't enough action.

I've played a bunch of ps1 and ps2 games on my ps3 as well, the upscaling is great for a HD screen. I compared it with my ps2 and it looks better on the ps3 imo (60Gb version).

Just to add, if you like shadow of the colossus I'd recommend getting ICO. I didn't play ICO until after SoTC but I enjoyed it more (both amazing games though).
