I just got the card installed after removing my old nvidia drivers with DC Pro and ran a few games and 3dmark 05. I went from 5075 with a Gainward 6800GT (Golden Sample) to 9600 with the x1950 (complete system at default speeds). In wow i was running at 1280 by 1024 max settings and dipping down to 20 fps at times, now im at 2048 by 1536 and running at 60+ fps most of the time. I have to say i'm really impressed with this card and I don't even have anything setup yet! I can't see temps yet but i'm working on that and I'm about to install the ATI control center. So far the x1950 is much quieter then the 6800GT witch had an artic silencer installed, and smokes it too boot! I'll keep you guys updated on how things turn out, post questions if you have any :p
btw sorry for the terrible grammar, too excited to type this long post.

you inflated those scores abit....you rig listed in your sig is the one I'm assuming your using....it wouldn't even get close to those scores in 3Dmark2006....you might be thinking of 2005, the scores seem to match that better.

This card is just further proof that there was no reason to go to PCI-e other than to drive new MOBO sales. The more I read about it the more impressed I get.

And I just got ati control center installed and its saying my card is idling at 47c assuming thats accurate?

now that we sorted that out...that's a pretty good score, I get 7530 from my A64@2.87ghz and 7800GS@550/1350...so I'm assuming I should get a pretty good boost from a X1950 pro.

what brand did you buy?

Nice!

After reading some reviews from firingsquad it seems the X1950pro AGP is the current fastest AGP card to date.

I wouldnt mind if nVIDIA released a 7950GT AGP version to beat the dead horse ONCE more and drive prices abit down. The prices on the X1950pro AGP is too expensive for my liking.

yep, my sapphire x1950p [got it yesterday] runs much cooler than my x850xt ... and it o/c's pretty well [621/1438] ...until my [weak 480w TT 18a on the 12v rail] PS craps out. :p
... as long as i don't O/C it is OK.

nice card

try Oblivion [HDR!] and Prey

PREY blew me away!

EDIT:

Do you think they will make a x1950p X2 in AGP

same bridge chip right?

Well do you have proof of the 7530 (I am just giving you a hard time like you did with my 3Dmark01 score, which did you see my screen?)? I get around 7330 with my X850XT PR @ 585/1200 MHz. The 7800 GS is suppoused to be slower than the X850XT PE, but you have a hell of an OC on that GS, what are you cooling it with? I am planning on at least getting 10K+ in 05 with the X1950Pro... Now the Diamond brand has VIVO, and the Saphire does not. I have heard bad things about Diamond, so I might go Saphire.

there are Y-adapters ... if you have the PS for it ;)

:D

i think you would need a 500w minimum PS with 36A on the 12v rail

why not? ... although it would be *overkill* for all but the fastest AGP systems.:p
[i'd need ~4Ghz from my P4 to make real use of it ... possible but unlikely]

and i actually forgot --?
. . . didn't the VisionTek have only one molex connector?
my sapphire has 2

and actually i have been *thinking* about this ... i'd need 2GB of SuperFast PC4000 and a VERY o/c'able 3.2 or 3.4Ghz Northwood P4 that could hit at least~3.8+Ghz stable. ... or even 4+Ghz on watercooling.

it'd give the fastest single core CPUs a nice 'run' ... if i could find one in FS/T ... cheap.

Actaully, I'm using the stock BFG cooler....mine came with a different cooler than what is pictured on BFG's website or what is fitted to reference card based 7800GS's, I have a nig heavy copper HSF unit instead, also I have noticed that according to the NV control panel my 7800GS is based on a G71 core with 16 pipes

Even when OC'd It rarely breaks 60C under full load...I'm not sure what the go is with it but it seems to like being overclocked, If I turn the memory down to stock speeds (1250Mhz) I can push the core upto 615mhz before it starts to develop artifacts.

but even at stock speeds it will get close to 7000 3dmarks in 2005.

Hopefully when I eventually get my hands on a Sapphire X1950 PRO I'll be able to break 10K as well....it doesn't really mean much but it's good for the E-penis :p

I have a 550w Antec for my AGP rig...it has 36A (2x 19A) on the 12v rail....does that count as overkill?

Thats strange.... Most 7800GS I have seen do not score that high. I guess you have a especial card which is GREAT.

Well if you want to talk about E-penis (LOL) my CPU is faster than yours.... I kid, I kid. Anyways you Should be more than able to break 10K so its going to revive that system quite nicely. Also How much RAM do you have? How fast and what timings is it running?

It get's 6903 at stock 7800GS speeds...but if I set the CPU to it stock 2ghz it barely makes 6500...I gues like you said about your rig, the CPU can make a bit of a difference.

Although your score is pretty good I always assumed that the X850XT was marginally slower than a 7800GS.

Well my card is barely OCed on the VRAM. VRAM speed has a huge impact in 3DMark05. For what I have seen in the past a Well OC 7800 GS in on par with a X850XT PE, if its not OC or barely OCed then it falls behind a X850XT PE. The great thing about a 7800GS is the SM3.0. ATi is also much better with games at full settings and 6x AA and 16x AF. As you see those 200 Marks do not mean much. What is your 3DMark01 score?

Do you have an ORB link?

only 24k, it didn't increase a great deal when I upgraded from a 6800GT I used to get around 21k :(

I think that later Nvidia card (6 and 7 series) might have pretty ordinary DX8 performance, my old 9700 pro used to get pretty close to my 6800GT on my A64 rig.

I have an AXP 3000+ and a P4 3.4ghz both with 6800's the AXP has a NU and the P4 has a GT and they both barely get 1000 points higher than when I use a 9700 pro in them, both rigs score around 17K-18K in 2001.

I get 15.5k in 3dmark03 and around 3900 in 06.

Your 06 is great for a 7800GS, but again you have a great card, a 150MHz OC on the stock cooler is a great thing. I only get 2500 Mark due to the lack of SM3.0. 3DMark01 is where I excel as my CPU is a much faster than most single cores. I also get great FPS in most games due to my CPU. I only play MSFS FS9 for the most part and my CPU has been great at it. FS9 is a CPU intensive game.

No wonder you asked me if my 3DMark01 was wrong in that one thread. You only get 24K in 01. You must not know about Dothan Power.

I guess I made an ass of myself by assuming that a P-M would only be slightly faster than a high speed P4, my A64 smokes any P4 upto 4ghz as it benches slightly ahead of a 939 4000+.

Nahh, you simply did not know. My CPU gets 25K+ in 01 @ stock speeds of 2.0 GHz and 533 MHz FSB. When I had a P4 3.0E @ 3.6GHz I could barely get 6K marks with the stock X850XT PE, once I went to a Dothan I gained 1K marks in 05. You computer is a very nice machine and the OC is great for an older 754 CPU.

I'm pretty sure the CPU has a little bit left in it but I just haven't been bothered trying to get higher, It's Prime95 Stable for 52hrs at 2.87ghz with only 1.5v vcore....I'm pretty sure I could hit 3ghz with 1.55-1.575v if I tried, the E6 venice's are a really nice CPU, they don't get very hot, mine rarely get 4C over room temp at 100% load.

Venice Cores are very nice as you stated. I once thought about getting one for a new Linux set up. I run an Old XP for Linux and it has been great. Are you on air?

The max I can get on air is 2.8 GHz, but with H2O or better cooling I could achieve 3.0 GHz, but 2.8 GHz in a Dothan is more than enough. A 2.8 GHz Dothan is comparable to a 2.8 GHz Allandale/Conroe in single threaded programs, which is not bad at all (Allandales/Conroes are a decendant of Dothan or P6 Architecture). My temperatures very depending on room temperature and for the most part it never goes above 40ºC.
