I sold the thing over 13 years ago over the 3DFX newsgroups (anyone remember newsgroups??) when I decided to "upgrade" to a Voodoo 2 and decided today that I had to have one back for sentimental value.

For $15 to the door it might be one of the cheapest computer part I have ever ordered even if I can't use it. No PCI slots! I should put it in a Plexi-glass case and put it on the desk!

By the way, anyone else here old enough to remember glQuake? Good times...

Still have an 8MB Voodoo2 and an AGP Voodoo5 5500 around here somewhere. Classic cards, they don't build 'em like that any more.

I have a GeForce Ti4600 I picked up for about the same reason. I plan on putting it in a Socket A system for some nostalgic gaming, but mostly it just sits on my desk and I look at it and fondly remember gaming of yesteryear. But that's not really 'that' old... maybe I'll pick up a Radeon 7200 32MB DDR someday as well. 🙂

I remember playing HL1 with software rendering (I was too young to have a job, so having a top of the line gaming machine wasn't really something I could swing)...then one day I grabbed a voodoo2 and put it in there...I remember being FLOORED with how good the graphics were in comparison to my software rendering (especially since I was playing team fortress classic on a 17" monitor at 320x240 res...)

One of the biggest upgrades I ever did to my system. I think the only other one that came close was moving from an 800mhz athlon thunderbird with 128mb of ram and a 10gb hdd to a 2.8c p4 with 1gb of ram and 160gb hdd....

I wish I had kept all my 3DFX boards instead of selling along the way. I paid $300+ for the Monster 3D back around '96 - '97. I don't know if you remember but the card would "click" when I would start a game like glQuake Unreal.

I thought about doing this too! But I don't know if I have the time (or patience) to build a system with parts I'd have to scrounge to find. I don't have any of my old games either! 🙁

Same thing happened to me when I went from vanilla quick to glQuake. What a friggin difference! I don't remember the specs on the machine I had at the time. Hell that was before college and a long time ago!

I'd play Diablo 2, Wizardry 8, Might and Magic 6 (and probalby 7 and 8), HOMM2 and 3, Divine Divinity, Morrowind, Beyond Divinity, Dungeon Seige, etc. etc. on a retro system. Some of those games just don't like Vista. But, in truth it's probably just be a lot easier to use something like Virtual Box and create a virtual Win98 and/or Win2k system to play these games. I hope my quad core and 5870 are up to task of rendering Morrowind! 🙂

I wish Ubisoft would make another party based, first person might and magic rpg game. 🙁 I miss world of xeen, and mm6 & 7 weren't bad either.

I have a canopus pure3d (voodoo1 with 6mb memory) that I kept for nostalgic reasons. My other favorite that I sold was my ti4600...that card lasted me a long damn time.
