The thing looks BRAND SPANKING NEW, sealed in an anti-static bag, but the serial number is "mysteriously" worn off... I can make out the last #, but the rest looks erased.

Likely a refurb? It was listed as used, so thats fine, but i was just curious...

If the entire label is gone, it could be "debadged", sometimes a contractual requirement of recyclers in order for them to resell wholesale lots. If just the serial is gone, that's a little fishy to me.

Stolen OR from an unauthorized dealer. Some authorized dealers will backdoor their products to on-line dealers to meet VIR (Volume Incentive Rebate) numbers. In order to cover their tracks (so the manufacturer can't cut them as a dealer for violating their dealer agreement) they will often scratch off the SN on the item.

Either way... no serial number, no warranty.
