so i bit the bullet...and ordered an ipod mini for my gf

for the past couple months, my gf had been dropping hints left and right that she wants an mp3 player...more specifically the ipod. initally, i was adamantly against purchasing the ipod. but after i started doing some research, i guess my outlook changed.

the choice was either between
ipod mini or iriver H10
or
ipod or iriver H320

i figured the ipod mini or iriver H10 would be better suited for her since she is such a petite girl (also, I can save some $$ 😛). I really liked the looks of the H10 and with the FM tuner, color screen, and near identical size to the ipod mini, the H10 looked like a clear winner. But a couple things that turned me off the H10. the H10 has a smaller battery life than the ipod...and people have been complaining about buggy firmware for the H10. Also rule of thumb is never ever buy a product thats been recently introduced to the market. The ipod mini is in its 2nd generation and hopefully all the bugs have been worked out...but i just dont know about the H10. Also the cheapest i found the H10 was for $230 shipped. I got the ipod for $170 shipped. Plus the customized laser engraving on the back of the ipod is just cool 😉

So what do you guys think? Did i make the right choice? Remember...she is neither an audiophile...nor a nerd. she wants something thats easy to use, is cool looking, and has pretty good sound quality.

I got mine one for this Valentine's Day w/ something personal on the back. needless to say it was an awesome decision!
 
i bought one as a gift for my g/f this past christmas -- it too shipped from china, came into the U.S. through Alaska according to the tracking... still made it to the east coast in under a week.

I've had no iddues with mine, even after it's been left playing for 14 hours straight (plugged into mains of course), it also has 2 headphone jacks (line out and headphone are both volume controlled so can act as headphone jacks - iRiver H140)

I would have gone for whichever was cheaper of the size you wanted (ie: cheaper out of H10/mini if you want ~5GB, or of H3xx vs iPod if you want more space).

I was going to get an IPod +Photo the gf for her birthday - engraved, case and all. Possibly a hook up to her aftermarket car stereo. I would have been proud of that Accord.

Then her hints started changing to "I want a new bag..."

yea maybe when the price of the iriver H320 comes down a bit...i'll buy one for myself. But the iaudio M5 is looking pretty nice too!

trust me. u dont want my job. unless you like maintaining old COBOL programs. yeap. thats what i do. im in the development team...but we never develop anything new

and cancun is a really cheap trip. gf's parents has timeshare there. so me, her, her sis, and her sis' bf are goin there for a week. all we are paying for is airfare and food money

I think the Mini's are made in China, so you shouldn't worry about it. She'll love the Mini, I've had it for about 8 months and absolutely love it.
