So I Babysat On Saturday

My sister couldn't get a sitter for Saturday, so she asked me if I would babysit for her and I said sure.

She has 4 kids: 1 Boy (Owen) 12 years old, 1 Girl (Grace) 8 years old and 2 Boys (fraternal twins - Ben and Ethan) 5 years old.

I started at 8:00AM and would be done by 1:30PM. The twins were pretty much under control but noisy. Grace kept to herself for a couple hours and Owen has behavioral problems due to underlying psychological issues. Owen was a handful but pretty much under control.

At 11:00 AM the twins had to leave for a friend's birthday party. That meant I only had to deal with 2 kids. Grace made some lunch for Owen and herself which meant less work for me to deal with. After lunch Grace wanted to watch a scary/action movie on netflix. I didn't really care either way so I said ok.

She chose to watch The Purge 2. That was just about the lamest action movie i had ever seen but Grace really liked it and Owen was bored with it so he went out to ride his bike.

Seems Grace likes action and horror movies. She must get it from her father as he likes those movies, too. I did the same thing when I was that age. LOL

Out of all her siblings, she is the most intelligent one. She was great to watch a movie with. I had a great time and my sister was happy that things went so smoothly.

So next time I go over I need to figure out what movie would be good for Grace. I was thinking maybe the original The Fog or maybe the first Nightmare on Elm Street or even Mad Max: The Road Warrior.

😀

I tried to get my son to sit through The Omen but he found it extremely boring. Maybe you could get her into the Walking Dead?

The Conjuring binge session would be great. Conjuring 1, Annabelle and Conjuring 2. Fun for the whole family!

I have not seen 2 myself, need to watch it some time.

my niece is 5 and has never watched a TV show save for some football here and there and some Top Chef.

would be nice to revisit this in another 5 years and see how it went.

Action/horror? See how she does with Aliens. I'd like to see if she literally shat herself with the facehugger/celing scene.

Also: Jurassic Park.

You're right, 8 year-olds who watch R-rated movies don't make good mothers.

I dunno.

I've seen worse female authority figure role models.

Funny how times have changed. When my sister and I were those ages, we were left home alone by ourselves while my parents went to work.

You let an 8 year old watch one of the Purge movies? Damn.

When mama hears about that one (and she will, little girls have big mouths), you won't have to worry about babysitting them again!

Make sure your sister is cool with it (if you haven't already). A lot of it depends on the kid. My two oldest sons would not have been able to handle a slasher flick at 8, my youngest probably saw several.

He asked for movie ideas, not for parenting advice... If I don't agree with his parenting decisions, who am I to tell him what to do with his kid...My kid my problem, his kid his problem. Simple as that...

No offense, but this idea that we don't effect each other with our own personal decisions is wrong.

I'm 40 years old. I can't be offended with discussion. Why is wrong?

To be clear: I wouldn't give my 8 year son or 8 year daughter to watch purge...But i would rather die then give them Teletubbies... I strongly believe Teletubbies would make my kids morons... Do I think purge(and similar movies on long run) would make them aggressive? At that age there is possibility and I wouldn't take a chance with my kids. But if other parents wanna, let them. You can't change opinions of parents which don't wont to understand or they are not willing to learn. So if parent(in this case brother of parent) is concern about aggressive movies influence on their or sisters children, he should open topic: Does aggressive movies make children aggressive...But if we look at movies which he gave them, do you really think he cares about that?

Well, I think it's ok to make comments about how others do things. Turning a blind eye to something that would hurt (most) kids isn't a good thing. So that's the way I took your post that I replied to. But I agree with the Teletubbies. If anything is going to turn kids into an axe murderer the Teletubbies along with some Dora the Explorer will do it.
