Apparently I have some lawsuit against me. Though I have no idea what. They came to my moms house to give papers, but I no longer live their. I moved out over a year ago. I really do not know what it is for, anyway I can find out online?

Well, since they had an old address from over a year it may indicate the cause of action occurred back then. I hope your mom didn't give them your proper address, no service, no suit 😉

Nope - at least in some types of cases or jurisdictions they can serve you by publication. Ever see those legal notices in the newspaper? And if you don't respond they can enter a default judgement against you.

I had this happen to me in an auto accident case about 10 years ago in L.A. - they brought a suit about two weeks before the statute of limitations expired and I had moved. Was complete B.S. though, as I still had the same insurance company and was easily found by the most trivial search.

Woah, that sucks. Around here they gotta serve you. I was involved in a case a year or so that got delayed for about 12 months. They couldn't find one of the parties, they finally just dropped him and proceeded with the rest of us (forclosure case in real estate, no biggie)
