Just a few days ago I was able to line up a fairly complex business class award trip on the same ticket over the usually blacked out Xmas\NYE holiday period.

Detroit -> Frankfurt
Frankfurt -> Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa -> Seychelles
Seychelles -> Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa -> Nairobi
Nairobi -> Zurich
Zurich -> Toronto
Toronto -> Detroit

Normally, for us, a trip like this would be split over at least a couple tickets so I'd have to worry about missing connections because the responsibility would be on me if things went awry. But this is all on a single 'Round Trip' award ticket for almost a week each in both the Seychelles and Nairobi. Even better I was able to structure the layovers so we'd had 7.5 hours in Frankfurt, 12 hours in Addis Ababa and 6.5 hours in Zurich. Of course this is assuming things work they way they are scheduled but that should be enough time to explore parts of those cities. New countries, new continent, business award actually originates and terminates in DTW, new airlines, warm weather in the winter... Now I just have to hope schedule changes don't ruin our layover plans

dang, with a flight that long i dunno if i'd have enough energy to do anything during the layovers. then again, it is business class so it'd be a little easier to get some sleep than in econ.

That's a week-long trip? So what is that, 3 or more days in airports and airplanes and the remaining 10 waking hours on the ground, taking pictures, in 4 different countries?

For me the sleep is a lot better. I got 6 hours of decent sleep on our 14 hour flights to Oz\NZ while I can usually only get 3 hours of shitty sleep in an economy seat. But I know we can do a full day on 3 hours of shitty economy sleep so I thinking this will be fine with some coffee. There are also shower facilities at FRA and ADD if we want to use them. Probably ZRH as well but I haven't checked yet. I'm a little concerned our internal clocks will be a bit screwed up but we'll see.

We'll get almost a week on the ground (not including flight times or layovers) in both (each) Nairobi and the Seychelles
