So..I am finally going to format the HD today

Tell me what I should back up and how. I have all the original and important files stored in "my document" folder...I think I will copy the whole thing into the CDR. Is this the right thing to do?

How do you guys back up the files? I mean...once you reformat the HD doesn't everything just washed out?

Should I create partition? I don't really see the need for it...but tell me the advantage of it..maybe I will have 2nd thought.

edit: CDR, DVDR, 2nd HDD, Partition... use one of those.

Don't bother with partitions....it'll be a pain in the butt.

ED - Make sure you have 'show hidden files' from the folder options.

I use software called Backup MyPC, it works like the default MS backup utility that they got rid of in XP. Don't forget email.

What os are you using and what type of backup hardware and software do you have? also where do you keep all your important files or files you want to save?
