So I am at an Pennzoil Oil Change place now...

Currently in San Francisco and my car is a Honda Accord 2000 SE, with roughly 64k miles on it. It is on its 2nd Auto transmission as the first one had factory problems.. Recently, I noticed that when I go uphill, the trnasmisison will downshift and it would jerk the car.. sometimes, when I am at a full sotp, my car would just die (like if I let the clutch slip on a manual transmission.

I am getting a basic oil change for $32.99 and the service rep recommended me to get a Fuel Inductive service and a Transmission flush for $69.99 and $29.99 respectively.. He showed me the fluids of the auto transmission and thedust from the use of it..

I am writing this on my macbook right now and noticed the service rep say that there is a $20 fuel inductive coupon, that I will ask for...

What do you guys this? Are these prices a bit too high or justified?

Thanks for the response..

Maybe a little big high, but not totally out of line. I think the Ford dealer where I have the oil changed in my Expedition charges $29.99 for 7 qts and a Motorcraft filter.
I'm not sure about the transmission flush...sounds like your transmission is borked, not sure how much good a fluid change is gonna do...How many miles on the new transmission? Any warranty left on that? Fluid/filterchange recommendations vary with the car, but most range frome 15K to 30K. Once the transmission starts slipping, that's a sign that the clutch packs are badly worn, and will most likely need to be rebuilt. I suppose the flush/change won't hurt anything, but don't expect miracles... Unless you're having problems with the fuel system, that service may just be wasted $$$. You can do it, but personally, I'd pass on that UNLESS there's been any obvious problems...Never hurts to have the injectors cleaned, but usually, all they do is run some chemical cleaner thru the system, (many don't even change the fuel filters) which you can do yourself with a couple bottles of Techron that you buy at the parts store...

Just so you know it sounds like your have a Torque Converter problem so dont wate your money on any of it. The Converter is locking up (old late 80's early 90's chevy's used to do that) and thats what is killing you engine. My old 92 Hyundai Excel spent on that crap service and get the trans looked at and replaced again 😉

And I dont care what the guy there tells you most of that stuff is a scam and not needed and WILL NOT fix your trans problem at all.

fuel injection cleaning doesnt do much, the reason they are filthy is the emissions equipment that runs exhaust thru your intake manifold. i have seen catch cans that filter that installed using a air compressor filter which work well. they fill up with sludge pretty fast.

the tranny is full of sensitive valves and when they use a pressurized flush it can easily damage them. best to just remove the pan and you still have a bit of old fluid left but it wont damage anything. if its slamming into a lower gear it could be a different problem altogether.
first thing i wouldnt do is use pennzoil, but thats your choice i guess.

$32.99 seems slightly high for an oil change. They using synthetic? Honda dealer here in So. Ca charges $28 for the no frills oil & filter change.

$70 for fuel induction cleaning seems about average, if they also take apart and clean the throttle body. If they don't, you can just buy a $10 bottle of Techron concentrate or equivalent and run it through your car and do a similar, if somewhat less thorough, job on fuel injectors, intake valve, and combustion chamber.

As to whether this would help the stalling while stopped, I have no clue. I am not that well versed in autos, I just know what I pay to get the oil changed. Throttle body cleaning did help my Civic with rough/inconsistent idle while stopped and slight hesitation while starting from a stop, but I fully expect the symptoms to come back in 2-3 years as new junk accumulates again. Since your car completely stalls out, it's either something else causing the problem (seems more likely) or your throttle body must be as dirty as a cheap prostitute's box.

$30 for a transmission flush is pretty cheap. Honda stealership wants something in the range of $80-100 for that, I believe. Possibly its just a drop-the-pan, change the filter, and replace whatever spills out type of deal? Don't think it would really fix the rough shift, however.

Fer gawds sake man, get out of that place and find a place with some certified mechanics!!

QFT.

Also - most Honda's use specific (read: dealer only) trans fluid, and regualr Dexron or similar can ruin the trans.

Find a real mechanic

Agreed. I'd rather pay a little more to know that my car is getting what it needs.

Damn, not to scare you, but it may be your torque convertor. Time to get that transmission checked. My stupid Galant's transmission died twice with the same symptoms you are having.

An oil change will do nothing, and they are assholes for trying to convince you that an oil change flush or whatever the fvck will help you...

Flushing the transmission fluid will probably cause the torque convertor to die on your next "gun" of your transmission since the transmission will be dry. Don't do it.

29 bucks is TOO cheap for a trans flush.

I'd go to either a Honda specialist or the dealer and get a REAL trans flush, and a REAL injector cleaning.
