So, I almost wrecked my fathers SRT8 the other day.

Pretty dumb story, but I was just wondering if any other Manual drivers have run into this.

I was on the Cross Bronx Expressway with his car the other day and I needed to brake quickly to avoid someone in front of me. (I was never in real danger of hitting him.)

The only problem was, since it was a quick-thinking type move, my left foot went down to push the non-existant clutch pedal down, and it hit the brake pedal super hard. The brakes in the SRT8 300c are incredibly strong...lol

I must have went from 40-10MPH in less than a second, and all I heard was someone behind me screeching...lol Luckily no hit, but the guy passed by with a mean ass look on his face. hahaha

Man, who would have thought it would be harder for me to drive an automatic...lol Next time I drive his car, I am going to have to tie my leg down. 😀

Why did you need to brake suddenly?

Pay more attention!

Although if the person behind you had hit you it would have been their problem...

Officer: Why did you hit that guy?
Driver: He braked unexpectedly!!!!1!!1!
Officer: Okayyyyyyyyyyy

Absolutely I have never, ever done that and I drive more miles with a manual than not. In the past I HAVE hit the non-existent clutch with my left foot at the same time as my brake with the right, but never inadvertantly hit the brake with my left foot.

Ditto, with an extra emphasis on NEVER, EVER.

I think the worst transmission related stupidity I've encountered was driving a Benz A class with the stupid clutchless manual. I spent a good ten minutes just trying to start the damn thing.

The dumbest thing I've done is stall an automatic-equipped car though. we were driving on some back roads, and I floored it through a giant pot hole. apparently, when you overload a ford escort wagon with 7 passengers, everything bottoms out and then kills the motor ^^

The Cross Bronx Expy is notorious for varying speeds, congestion and potholes. I try to avoid it's use at all costs when I go from NJ to Queens or Long Island.

lolol, the 300c has one of those super-wide brake pedals lol. My father was in the car with me at the time, and he was like WTF is wrong with you?

Holy hell. That poor car. haha

I alternate between automatic and manual all the time and both seem natual as soon as I start driving.

Exactly I've never run into this problem either. It's called paying attention.

i've stomped on the dead pedal without thinking while trying going to start an auto, but i've never had an urge to push the invisible clutch in traffic.

i do hate super wide brake pedals. they more often than not interfere with my right foot, rather than my left, though.

So what the hell did your right foot hit?

Thats the thing, they both went and hit the brake at the same time...so imagine stomping your left foot down on the brake -- and then your right foot coming down at the same time, but now you are in a panic because the car is jerking all of a sudden.

I stomped the brake pedal almost all the way to the ground, but had enough sense to let off almost immediately. I also reached for the non-existant stick, but didn't quite make it.

Eh, paying attention? Driving before you leave the driveway is based on habits. I still get into my father's Camry and accidentally stomp my left foot before I turn the ignition.

But during driving? I don't mistake the two. Is the brake pedal on the SRT10 one of those extra long pedals that extend left?

I did that once in a parking lot with my Mom's car. Of course, that was like 2 decades ago and all it did was make me look stupid...not nearly cause an accident. Lucky for you the guy behind you was paying attention and not following too closely.

I dated a girl in college who drove and Acura TL. I hated driving that thing...the brakes were super sensitive. The first time I drove us home from somewhere in it I damn near ate the steering wheel at the first stop sign.

Never hit the brake looking for the clutch but I have hit the windshield wiper stalk/switch trying to put my dad's car with a console shift into reverse in a panic situation. Use to my van's column shift when I drive an auto.

I nearly broke my wife's neck in our 328i last night. Its breaks are much, MUCH stronger and grab much higher than the SX 2.0 we've been driving up until now! Took me about a half hour to get used to them, but now I love em.

That's usually how it happens with FR cars. Going too fast, slam the brakes, all the weight transfers to the front wheels. Or downshifting without rev-matching in a manual and the same thing happens. You can imagine the results in a turn while going 60+ mph, esp if it just happens to occur at a bump or joint in the road.

Both my cars are manual, but one has a much stronger clutch (Spec 3+ 11") that is cable operated and the other is a very weak clutch (8" OE) that is hydraulic. You can imagine the loud bang when I switch from one to the other and put my foot through the firewall.

if there was no real reason for the quick braking from 45 down to 10 mph he could get a ticket as well. either way the guy behind is getting a ticket.

and i do the same thing with my left leg when i drive other peoples vehicles. but i have never got the brake pedal by accident.
