Ugh, if you actually know anything about guns, avoid discussing them with people that play Counter-Strike.

Them: "OMG, you're so full of sh!t, that's the best gun ever!"

Me: "Oh really? I've used them extensively, and I can say without a doubt that they are overrated pieces of sh!t. How much experience do you have with them?"

Them: "I use them in Counter-Strike all the time and they work perfectly, never jam or nothing!"

I like to ask test questions to see if they are knowledgable or not. If not, I just thank them and don't waste my time with a dumbass.

i agree, but you should have done it that day. But first i would have called the manager and explained the situation with the deceitful claims made by the employee and how the supervisor fg was covering his name tag and wouldnt tell his name when it was asked for.

I can't even begin to count the number of stories i've heard/read/experienced (sigh) RE: Best Buy lying. The more of them i come across, the more i wonder how long it will be before people stop going there.

coming in a bit late in the thread, but I had a similar situation happen....

Some kid was looking at video cards, and a sales assosiate asked him if he needed help. He was looking at the 9600 line, there was a SE (256MB), Pro, XT, and Pro AIW. He asked the clerk what all the differnt cards were. THe 256MB SE was the same $$$ and the Pro, the XT was $100 more, same as the Pro AIW. THe clerk told him to go with teh 256MB SE. He said the Pro was a decent card, and the XT was a faster version, and the AIW had feates he wouldnt need. When the kid asked why the SE (256MB) was less, the clerk said thats becaise its a special edition, they mark down the price so people will buy them, but with 256MB it is far superior to any other 9600 card. I actally started lauging when I heard that. I stepped in and said that getting a 256MB piece of crap is useless, and that tha 9600Pro would perform much better, and the XT even better than that if he could afford it. The clerk looked at me and said are you the person who works here or am I. My responce to him was you, but that was obviosly a mistake on the companies part. I continued to help the kid find a card after the associate walked away. Man, BB employess are idiots (no offence to you who actaully are, not all of them are stupid, just most of them :D)

I worked at Best Buy about a year ago for 3 months in computers. Man did I hate it. The job wasn't that bad since I could handle the customers fairly well. Its the managers who were always on my ass, ordering us to sell service plans and sign people up for MSN or AOL. There was me and about 3 other people who were honest. I never sold someone a computer they didn't need. Usually I'd recommend the more affordable solution. Sometimes its a little hard though when they want video editing out of a $300 eMachine. Sure I"d "try" to sell the service plans and stuff but not at the lengths some people go to. I"ll quote myself here "Are you interested in the service plan? No, ok" Hell I used to get yelled at for not selling additional ink with printers.

I used to love selling network supplies. No attachments so no hassle. I had customers ask me to help them with TVs, Appliances, etc. because I was honest with them. On a few occassions, people came back to thank me because the computer they bought does everything they need.

I said before, I wasn't a common employee, I guess I cared. But I really wouldn't blame people on the floor, its mostly the managers and supervisors (or however they have it structured now) who make it a crappy place. If you buy a TV without a service plan, that guy is getting chewed out the second you leave or later in the day...

50 pack of Fujis for $5. Can't go wrong there.
Sometimes they have good deals on DVDs, or software. I avoid purchasing computer stuff there unless it's something mentioned in the Hot Deals forum.

no commission right? its amazing how top managment thinks this is a good way to retain morale amoung their workers. no commission as a carrot. no.. instead u should feel pride when u rip people off for min wage to please those managers! thats motivation for ya:p

No, no commission for guys on the floor. Although they would never admit it but supervisors and managers would get performance bonuses and such. For everything from Service Plans, Online Services to being under the Labor Budget.

The only incentive I remember when I was working there was the Sunday when Reward Zone launched. The sales manager said that anyone who sold 5 or more subscriptions would get a free DVD of their choice (no box-sets) and the one who sold the most would get a free DVD player. That was for that day only and if you weren't working that day, s-cks for you.

Then there's this thing they used to have (probably still do) called achievers. Basically certain months different divisions of the stores would have to meet certain goals and compete with other stores in the district. The store who wins, gets a trip to Florida or something. Sounds cool but again, the trip is for the managers and the supervisor of the department who is allowed to bring a guest, usually the senior. Man, during that time EVERYONE would be on our a-ses to SELL SELl SELL. "Did you get the P?" was the most common saying. You can make decent money (for retail) working there but you deal with a lot of sh-t. A friend of mine still works there (non-sales) and hates it. He siad you know its time to quit when you win MVP.

The one thing I absolutely hated was these clowns coming in and testing me on my knowledge, probably what a lot of you do. Some weren't that bad, they'd ask you like one question and if you were right they would walk away, but some people would stand there and pick at you for like 10 minutes trying to get you to mess up.

I've tried this out myself just for kicks. The salesperson's bottom line was that if I wanted to play games, I by all means Avoid getting an AMD system.

Eh, give the salesman a break. They go through a lot of crap for nothing. They have to sell these thousand dollar machines and still make $8-10hr and no commission. They don't need you going around busting their balls.

Report the manager to the BBB anyways... u know what he looks like...just go back there..find out his name and report him and the salesman if possible... He actually touched you thinking that he could threaten you... DO IT, i'm sick of middlemen managers behaving unethically in their buisnesses.
