The story starts with me and my roommate setting off a pop bottle rocket right around 10pm, well apparently a certain whiny neighbor was rather upset by this and called the cops and told them she had heard someone shoot off a gun. Well the cops show up on my doorstep at midnight wanting to know what was going on and wanted to search the place to make sure nobody had been shot. They said we either consent or they will get a warrant.
Now I still have about $300 worth of store bought fireworks and all kinds of chemicals to make fireworks with, and to the untrained eye that could easily look like a rather large bomb making supply, plus I have about 5lbs of blackpowder for my blackpowder musket and gunpowder for reloading purposes.
To top this off I am 20 years old. Yes, I live in a small town and they chief of police even crawled out of bed to come look at stuff.
I really lucked out though for the fact that the chief of police is buddies with my grandfather, the local bomb squad guy they called said that most of the list of chemicals were for use with making fireworks and I called my dad who showed up and told them that they were used for making fireworks.
What happend in the end was that the chief of police decided he was not going to confisgate any of my fireworks or chemicals, as fireworks are even illegal to have in town, as long as I promised to get them out asap.
If they had pressed charges I would have been in jail on probably multiple bomb making types of charges, probably conspiracy and whatever else they could come up with to throw me in federal prison.
Sorry for any typos or screw ups as I am still quite shaken up and one of my contacts is now wedged ontop of my eye.

Note, the lady who we figure called in the complaint was probably the same one who came outside and started yelling at us for having my roommates car stereo too loud while we were working on getting it setup and tuned in, and that was around 5pm or so.

Cliff notes, cops thought I was making bombs, which is something I would never even consider.

Cliffs:

TonyG is a terrorist with bomb making supplies, his neighbor called the cops when she saw a towel on his head.

I would have told them to come back with said warrant, but Im and ass that way. You are probably better of because you let them in wthout it, but this is a once in a lifetime case. In most instances you should make the Police go get the warrant....most times they will never come back as it is a mere threat to get you to give up YOUR rights WILLINGLY and they are hoping they can find something to jack you on.

Thats basically what one officer kept trying to get me to admit too.
Lots of questions like surely you know how to make bombs, I know you have made them since you have all this stuff. You just call them firecrackers right? and other various questions along that line.

I would've told them to go ahead and get the warrant.

Hint: They most likely wouldn't have been able to get it. "Someone heard gunfire" isn't enough for a warrant.. How did they single out your house, anyway?

If the neighbor heard gunfire, the injured person could've been in any house in the area....

Point of the story....NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER let the police in if they don't have a search warrant. That means they don't have legitimate probably cause that evidence will be destroyed or immenent physical harm to an individual.

I agree with DainBramaged, you should not have agreed to the search. The sound of "gunfire" is not sufficient probable cause, NEVER EVER do that again

-> slaps you on the back of the hand.

light a smoke and relax.

Do you actually have all the chemicals inside your house???? what would happen if they got ignited?

Never, EVER, let the police in without a warrant. For all you know it might be a viscous killer looking for a victim dressed up like a cop. Oops, kinda blew my cover here, didn't I?

Should have told them to go get a warrant. They would've dragged a judge out of bed, told him that they had a report of gunfire, and that you weren't letting them in, and he would have had some harsh words for them.

Oh, and go build a bomb and send your neighbor's house sky high.

Sounds about right for what should happen when you're a jackass setting fireworks off when people are trying to sleep.

while the lady is probably just being a bitch in general, I agree that you shouldn't be doing that at 10pm on 7/10.

Of course I don't know what other abuse you've subjected her to in the past... 20 year olds aren't the most innocent, let alone respectful... maybe I'll retract that b!tch remark.

I can see only one solution to this problem... make sweet love to your neighbor.

Once you get them all packed up and ready to go away, get rid of it all but keep a few. I'd aim them at the b!tch's house and fire them off. THen of course if they come to you, you can say that you followed ordres from last time and got rid of all your stuff so you don't know who it could have been. But then let it slip that you've seen a lot of strange activity over there with dark cars in the middle of the night and you once saw some blueprints for a train station in her trash and it had red circles on it...

errr...I highly doubt they would have gone that far with some 20 year old kid who wanted to have some fun w/ fireworks.
