Is there any kind of fraud protection with paying for something with a check? I'm wondering because I won an auction but every credit card type of payment he accepts, it is either not sufficient (bidpay) or will only allow US citizens (C2it). Plus he doesn't accept credit card payments through Paypal.

Nope.

I would pay via money order or cashier's check and not personal check and make sure to send it with tracking.

If you're able to pay with check then why aren't you able to pay via NON-CREDIT CARD Paypal? I think Paypal calls it e-check or transfer from your bank account.

Agreed.

Sounds kind of fishy to me...

Yes, but money order or cashiers check with tracking costs a huge amount of money....sometimes in excess of 8 bucks. On an item worth for example, 8 bucks, you've just increased your cost paid by 100%. Even on 100 dollar items, thats like an 8% tax.

That said, checks are fairly safe, since cashing them generally requires photo ID.

True and I should have clarified that unless it's a big ticket item or he wants to be cautious, tracking is optional. For me USPS Priority with DC is only $4.30

Actually he does accept echecks... but I'm not in the US so I can't send those. I guess a money order is another option.

Any of you guys know if having SquareTrade validation means anything?
