anywhere from 5-15 HP, depending on the car.

It allows cooler air to be used by the engine, which means more air, since hot air is less dense.

don't forget this is max hp though...The gains are by far not felt across the whole curve

Pricewise, search google for a car club, then they should have links to aftermarket parts dealers

and you could lose power in one part of the power band, and gain it other places.

yup, depends on the engine. for my maxima, a stillen intake with a k&n filter added about 5 horses but with a supra twin turbo, you'd easily gain 15

Please tell us what car do you have... and what type of intake is it? (cold air intake? or short ram?)

If you have something like a Mustang or a car with Forced Induction, an intake can add quite a bit of horsepower...

However for something like a Honda, the most would be 2-3 horsepower...

so there is really not that much difference then.. 10-15 to the max horse power... one thing i do know is that by adding an air intake is that my engine will sound a bit louder.. am i right? Should i even get it?
i have a 97 honda civic ex..

it will get louder. I think you will feel a difference in a Civic, not sure how much though.
